Great Business Opportunity

Independent Beauty Consultant (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Mary Kay part-time for more than 3 years

ProsVery positive experience overall. In business for yourself, but not BY yourself. Products are priced right, and the Company stands behind all of their products and their research. SO important. The 100% guarantee means I can sell with confidence and make sure my customers have what they want. The people I have met as a result of Mary Kay has opened doors to lasting friendships and has allowed me to meet many new customers and business associates.

ConsThere are no cons regarding the company itself. Their marketing plan is solid.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing, but I think checking up on the practices of some individuals, if possible, might be a good thing, to make sure they are carrying out their business in the way the company wants to be represented.

The BEST company

Quality Analyst (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Mary Kay as a contractor for less than a year

ProsPeople enjoy coming to work, and your coworkers are very friendly

ConsAge, no one is close to my age. I'm the youngest employee in the manufacturing building (well at least in the sciences). Wishing I had more people to grab happy hour with or hang out with after work.

Advice to Senior ManagementGold Stars! Some of the best managers I've had. Really enjoy learning and working from my bosses.

A great place to mature a skillset!

Senior Technical Consultant (Current Employee)
Addison, TX

I have been working at Mary Kay full-time for more than 10 years

ProsCorporate direction to improve quality, workplace, retention, and image. Company supports cutting edge technology-not afraid of managed risk. Nice work environment and amenities. Lot's of long-time work mates...like having a second family. Great work/life balance.

ConsA bit heavy on the side of bottom-up management. Silo'd operations are not impenitrable, but is challenging at times. Fast pace cuts into delivered quality. Easily distracted from long-term goals by the "problem of the day". Management by comittee is nice, but really slows the machine.

Advice to Senior ManagementSlow the pace to improve the end result. Focus on the long-term targets with outward leadership.

This is the real deal

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Mary Kay full-time

ProsThe company culture is about caring and work-life balance. And unlike many companies, this is not just lip service.

ConsQuite a few layers of bureaucracy. The gigantic IT department is fragmented and it is difficult to figure out who is responsible for anything technically related. They try to treat every technical need as a "help desk" problem and are not inclined to provide deep solutions.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to flatten the company hierarchy a little. The IT department needs to hold some meetings with the corporate employees to figure out what their needs are and how to connect to the rest of the company.
