I have been working at Masco full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

OK salary, good benefits, some very nice, very talented people many who go completely unrecognized.

    Cons

Company has gotten so "lean" employees are required to do the job of 2 or 3 people. No promotions - they hire from outside. Build your resume and move on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with your employees. Recognize the jobs they do. Promote from within. Communicate.

I worked at Masco full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

benefits, vacation/personal time (if you are able to take it)

    Cons

no training, no work/life balance, no communication, play favorites (not based on working hard). Not for the long term. No promotions but want you to supervise others...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to dept. morale-dept. consists of more then your favorites-distribute work evenly to everyone

    I worked at Masco

    Pros

Very good benefits and decent pay

    Cons

Management consisted of simpletons who chose from the ranks those who were the best at brown nosing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You really should re-think the processes used for hiring and promoting. The employees who are promoted are those with the biggest mouths who then go on to pick favorites and allow gross abuses of time and money from those select few. It is not an environment conducive to fairness in any way. I was very disappointed in the lack of solid leadership.

    Pros

Great people, excellent environment, Company emphasized on maintaining healthy life style.

    Cons

Unfortunately there is a lot favoritism not necessary to all of the department, in my situation there was. other than that a great company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please value loyalty, and be patience with new hired, train them well, great foundation will help. Focus on developing employees for the long run, and look for favoritism

    I worked at Masco

    Pros

Masco used to be a great company and still has a number of good people. Pay and benefits were once highly competitive.

    Cons

The economic slowdown has hit this company hard and barely resembles the same place I worked at. Management used to promote a family atmosphere, that no longer exists.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pray that the housing market improves and get back to be the kind of company Ray Kennedy used to run.

    I worked at Masco

    Pros

I was able to travel the country.
Reasonably fun when not bored to tears.
    Great benefits.
Managers were always available by phone.
    Company provided laptop.

    Cons

    LOTS of travel.
    Low pay.
Any time i wasn't traveling, I would be stuck helping a local rep and in only one store at a time... BORING.
Company did not provide phone, even though it was a traveling job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't force in town time to be spent a one store.

    I worked at Masco

    Pros

Masco is fairly good on work life balance. They understand that people generally have a life away from work and are accommodative on time off and professional development.

    Cons

Communication is poor and the "top-down" organizational structure makes it difficult to understand what the strategic vision of the company is. Thus, on a day-to-day basis, its hard to see how your work is relevant, and you don't really feel like you're making a difference or your position is important.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to get to know what lower-level employees are working on and have some dialogue with them on what they can do to help the company.

I worked at Masco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Decent benefits.
    Fair wages.
I loved the people I worked directly with. There are a lot of talented people that work hard and truly want to see the company succeed.
Their inefficiencies are probably not uncommon in large holding companies

    Cons

Masco failed many years ago to set a course to win through innovation and change when the economy was starting to go south. Instead it seems that they scaled back, and are waiting for business to come back - and it is not going to. Inaction will be their true failure.

On-boarding process is terrible - no company background, no clarity on how your role fits into the bigger picture.

For me personally there was lots of overtime put in (nights and weekends), a lot of travel, and no policy for comp time.

Unlike other large corporations I have worked for, there is no clear vision, or message for how the company wants to grow and win.

Although many play in the same space, the business units do not communicate with each other, share learning, or partner to create bigger wins - this creates doubling of efforts, waters down brands, and shows weakness to retailers.

You can be at this company for years any not have awareness of what corporate services are available, what businesses Masco owns, or what research & development projects are in the works.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a clear vision for all Masco employees. Force collaboration between businesses to create one pipeline for products and service offerings. Create clear brand differentiation with your many competing brands.

We were called "the best in the business" at MRSS, not so much now I guess.

    I worked at Masco

    Pros

    Ability to work independently.
    Flexibility in hours.
    Great heath benefits.
It's hard to come up with anything else to say positively.

    Cons

Direction of the company changes like a spinning top.
Increasing costs of doing business passed down to employees.
Get some honest useful analytics, and stop the pseudo-analytics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The sales and service arm of Masco seems to be unsure of their identity. Stick with the values we had years ago, when MRSS was the best. Don't sacrifice common sense. End the flavor of the week. Stop making your associates twist in the wind.
