    Great company

    Financial Services Professional (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsGreat compensation scheme. Encouraging coworkers. Can be your own boss.

ConsPoor Training. Company portrays a fully functional financial services provider, when it really only functions by selling insurance through its advisors.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more support and help to advisors that are new to the business

    Not really great

    Associate Agent (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

    Pros-Good products
    -Good presence in the region
-Good orientation to help small businesses

ConsNot good communication with home office
Not good set up with general agent. If his/her management fails, who steps in?
Not ethical in regard to the bait and switch.

Advice to Senior ManagementMass Mutual is a multi-billion dollar corporation and should not be bashing former agents on their credit reports.

    Bait and switch

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsIf you want to make money its possible to do so. If you have any doubts, don't forget that you are in sales.

ConsThey don't care how you do it, as long as you bring a check you are the man. Not the way someone can sustain a career in my opinion.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease do remember that some people care about the work they do, especially when it is regarding someone's hard-earned dollars.

Good people and employees are treated well, but very beaurocratic

    Actuary (Current Employee)
    Enfield, CT

ProsMost people are very personable. Great benefits, including small things like dry cleaning, shoe and clothing repair on site. Overall very good people.

ConsIncentives need to be changed so that people are more willing to work together (be helpful) across areas. Employees are very helpful to their boss and immediate team, but it is hard to work people in other areas. There is a "silo" mentality.

Even within one's area, people are very political.

good sales training , ok products training

    Financial Professional (Current Employee)
    Roseville, CA

Proswell respected company, training was sufficent to get started, well seasoned managers who knew what there were doing, felixable hours

Conslocation was not good for me, too much concentration on geting sales right off the bat , more product traing. no base pay , when its your dime they need to let you proceed at your pace.

Advice to Senior Managementmore traniing about the the full product line of ins. less pressure to sell with limeted knowledge. supply more leads

    Tough Job

    Financial Services Representative (Current Employee)
    Grand Rapids, MI

ProsFortune 500 Company, good benefits package, room to grow if you have an entreprenurial mindset, good produtucs with wide array.

ConsOld conservative company, not willing to adapt quickly to industry changes, not the best commision structure, must be self-motivated, not much assitance.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your advisors they are the backbone of the company. Better commision strucutre with base pay would halpe out.

It was ok, offered me flexibility

    Financial Advisor (Former Employee)
    Baltimore, MD

ProsOffered an independent agent position that allowed me the flexibility to build my practice as I saw fit. This was important to me.

ConsAs an old line insurance company, there was still way to much emphasis on the insurance product side and not enough on the investment side.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would do a better job of emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach including insurance, investments, and other types of personal protection

    intern review

    Intern (Current Employee)
    Vienna, VA

Prosgreat training they also have hours that you decide. this gives one a lot of freedom over when they work

Consall commission based, hard to make money, they ask one to try to sell to family and friends when they shouldn't

Advice to Senior Managementpay interns more. this would give interns a great incentive to work more, and stay with the company long term
