    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, implement better training/more resources, better comp

I have been working at MassMutual full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Big company benefits. They actually had a full time physical therapist available for employees. It is a beautiful monolith building with Italian marble walls. Decent work hours and environment.

    Cons

There is lots of snow during the winter and you might not be able to find your car in their huge parking lot. Typical large company politics, but that is to be expected.

I have been working at MassMutual full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of autonomy and flexibility. You can do a lot of things here as long as you declare it as an outside business activity. Much better than a Northwestern Mutual, I was there for three years and got sick of there BS about Whole Life

    Cons

No base salary for producers. Most reps will never make over $100k. The industry as a whole is sick and needs change.

I worked at MassMutual full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits and flexible schedule.

    Cons

Anything such as marketing materials or trying to do evens is expensive with this company, be ready to join an am spirit group or you wont get much from this job. Also be ready to train your self because the managers here do not tell you what need to do in order to sell certain products. Best advice do all the training listed maybe tedious but least you would get paid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer a base salary to those just starting out maybe the first 90 days. Also make the managers be accountable for the agents. Felt like a free for all I know your supposed to be a business owner here however your still an associate and you need guidance. My manager was often too busy to spend time going over things I needed help with.

not a lot of room to grow

I have been working at MassMutual as a contractor

    Pros

Mass is one of the better mutual insurance companies: great contracts, high-value benefits, decent working environment, good people. I enjoy working with everyone in the office.

    Cons

Management is uninspired; sales models are dated. The message is basically, "get two meetings a day by whatever method works, take two fact finders per day, and you will succeed." Not gonna happen. An old, stodgy, good-old-boy industry is trying to sell to an electronically-charged and Internet-dependent generation of young people. There has been no real growth in life insurance sales since 2008 since most of the sales are just recycling old money. New York Life money comes over to Mass Mutual; Mass Mutual money goes over to Northwestern Mutual, and around and around it goes. If it wasn't for 1035 exchanges and qualified transfers, sales would be cut in half.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top level: You're not getting it. You need to completely revamp administration to underwriting. Financial services within 10 years will be nearly 100% digital and you're still going to be issuing paper policies with old buildings pictured on the front.
Field managing partners: A little more honesty and a little less sizzle in the recruiting arena, please. Tell it like it is and stop contracting anyone that dresses well and can fog a mirror. And, please...read an entire specimen policy once in a while. Your product knowledge is emabarrassingly poor.

    Pros

Decent benefits. Solid reputation. Solid financials.

    Cons

Opportunities limited. Need to get up to date with the times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of old systems.

    I worked at MassMutual

    Pros

Great products and services. Stable company and they are very diversified. The customer service is a amazing. Has mutual company benefits.

    Cons

You're on your own to pay for everything included licenses, seminars, etc. This is because it's a mutual company. No base salary, you only get a subsidy on the business you submit. Whole life is preached to be the cure all product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire an agency trainer. Get management more involved with newer advisors. Help to pay for licenses

    Pros

Resource managers are great, if you are not on a project, work/life balance can be good

    Cons

Promotions are not given, salary increases are very low. Seems like job openings are predetermined, can't move up. New metrics system/daily huddles and low cube farms are horrible. Would you like to sit 7 feet away from someones face and watch them pick it all day?
