    Pros

The benefits are very good and I like that it is a mutual company where the focus is more on long term results rather than the next quarter.

    Cons

Management is trying to change the culture to make associates more accountable and there have been ongoing staff reductions over the past few years. Not entirely a bad thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage more openness and opposing viewpoints. There is too much brown nosing because associates believe that behavior is rewarded. Also, I believe the work from home privilege is being abused in many cases.

    Pros

Very Good company great products good marketing and education

    Cons

manager was promoted, and new manager was not proactive in getting my business pushed through and issued 4 to 5 meetings on the same cases which were good cases

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

4 weeks is a long time to get good business issued and paid, I don't blame the company but the agency manager that was assigned to me I cannot speak for others but that was my experience and I was not the first to leave I tried to hang in there, but it was bad

    Pros

Access to experts who can assist you along the way.

    Cons

Commission only, and if you understand the nature of the business, you know that it's very difficult to have a consistent regular income stream, thus long term planning is difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide an initial salary for those who just started and are meeting sales expectations.

    Pros

Amazing company culture and an incredible support for both new and experienced agents. Frequent, quality training really allows driven individuals to excel here.

    Cons

The industry gets a bad rep because it is all commission-based and it is quite difficult to get off of the ground, and this is no different here

    Pros

MassMutual provides solid training and sales support for those new to the industry and for those just looking for a change. MassMutual houses extremely competitive products backed by a highly rated company. In addition to their own products, you are also provided the freedom to sell a myriad of prodcuts from other companies.

    Cons

Career contracts provide incentives to sell MassMutual products over outside carriers that you have access to. This is not necessarily a bad thing since most of their products are at or near the top in the industry across the board, but their products are not a fit for certain scenarios. Basically, in order to keep benefits and reach incentive goals....you must sell certain minimums of MassMutual products. This can be difficult at times.

It is extremely difficult to survive and/or succeed in this industry in general. Not necessarily con for MassMutual specifically, but be aware that it is very difficult and requires cold calling and strong networking skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more flexible career contracts. Offer a small base salary or at the very least do not charge agents rent if they do not hit certain sales figures in the first year of their contract.

Current Employee - Agent in Portland, OR

    Pros

If you're looking for wonderful professional development support, this is the place to work. The education is also the best. The company flies out wholesalers that specialize in different products to help you better understand everything there is to know about insurance.

    Cons

The learning curve is extremely large. It'll take you awhile to become great. It can be frustrating for a very long time if you are not comfortable with intentional failure.
