    Good pay and great bonus Good growth

    It's difficult to know whether or not you'll have a job from year to year due to the offshoring of so many great jobs overseas. Probably the largest complaint I would have is that the company is strangely stepford where you cannot be objective and ever say anything negative. It's like a propaganda campaign that never goes away. You need to be strangely positive and be constantly marketing a positive image for yourself and for the most part the company. If you are not, you'll be politically sniped or put in a sweat shop role so you cannot stir up any more trouble because you'll be working day and night and of course every weekend. Don't dare say that "we should do it this way". Instead just say everything is great. As an employee, you need to a YoPro, Asian or a female to have growth opportunities. With the current Indian CEO, believe me that being Indian is your best shot at rising to the top. I did a managerial (business leaders) job for 4 years because the current business leader was inexperienced and was not grown to the point in his career that he could do it himself. I have many years of leadership experience but was in a technical role. Then once he got to that point I was politically sniped out of the group. He had finally become a man and was now ready to lead. In the mean time I had worked myself to death doing his job and mine (and a few others) The company that has little respect for technical resources. They burn them and churn them. You are treated like a dog. Senior Leadership ranks are a country club compared to technical ranks. Business Leaders and below do all of the work but a large separation with respect to how leadership and technical ranks are treated.. Terrible work/life balance if you work on a product team. You will age quickly and I've seen many folks succum to health problems. Most folks try to stay fit to survive culture. Highly political!.

    Advice to Management

    Put much more experienced true leaders into leadership roles vs. YoPros. Too much inexperience going on. Stop outsourcing all of the labor and say it is in the name of diversity or globalization. Put more focus on quality. Reduce the ridiculous amount of fake propaganda that is required to build ones brand and focus on pay for performance like other organizations. Treat people that are working day and night not seeing their families with much more respect. People are getting divorces and families are being destroyed due to the poor work/life balance at MasterCard in Ofallon missouri. Start hiring more Americans and stop sending all work overseas! Keep the taxes here! Bring back an American CEO! that cares about American jobs and innovation vs. sending all work to their own country of origin.

    Interesting projects and innovation going on in some groups

    Cons

    Wow so disappointing and so far from my expectation. With 15 years of success in payments industry I don't think I ever felt as u devalued and under utilized as I did during my time at MC. The whole experience was so odd. I've worked for startups and huge co's but the leadership here was really bad (some) with lots of people with very little experience outside of MC, which is so unfortunate be because they don't appreciate varied talents and backgrounds. I noticed high turnover and lots of colleagues looking for other jobs and would notice no one was real, they all spoke like stepford wives about the company like they were worried someone was listening. Just so odd and so not a place I would recommend unless you really get an awesome group and boss, which there were some I encountered

    Pros

    Fortune 500 brand experience on your resume.

    Cons

    I was lucky to leave MasterCard before the culture in US marketing went from bad to unbearable. The new group head has created a culture of fear and politics that has everyone on edge and miserable. This fear has taken the focus off the work and now everyone is constantly managing up to gain political capital. The politics in the group are at an all time high and it's every person for themselves. Don't expect any support from coworkers including supervisors and HR. Business leaders have lost the ability to make simple business decisions and the group head constantly micromanages experienced professionals until they become frustrated and could care less about doing a decent job. It's also common for the group head to send late night emails and assign weekend projects regardless if you scheduled plans or family time. This old school ego driven leadership style is tearing the group apart and almost everyone is looking for new jobs outside the company.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the group head in US marketing before you lose even more dedicated employees.

    Pros

    Great for graduate or intern to have on resume. Great Brand name and recognition. Good salaries, working environment, and colleagues.

    Cons

    The company is trying to make itself into a technology company but this is ridiculous. The top brass run around spinning their story. The top executives are 'real innovators', mainly lawyers, accountants or ex Citibank cronies.....there's a success. That tells you enough! They have fired or laid off so many experienced quality professionals in the US and abroad with the goal of replacing these people with younger cheaper staff. It is very short sited. It is hard to believe they have not been charged with discriminatory practices in the people they fire, mainly female employees and also people 40 and over or close to pension. That's US labor laws! They post many non-existing jobs. I heard from European colleagues that the jobs do not exist and are never filled. The HQ in Belgium is being moved to London and regions but no one will admit this. I heard the plan is 5-10 years. They make jokes that the President, Javier Perez, must be a ghost because no one ever sees him! The company does not embrace anyone who does not tow the line and managers at senior level have complete autonomy to get rid of anyone they do not like for any reason. They are fully protected by the HR police or should we rename them the 'firing squad'. Since the new CEO and his EGO moved in several years ago, all the nice amenities of the company slowly disappeared.

    Advice to Management

    Is there enough room in the building for Mr Banga and his Ego!

    Pros

    Brand name company and well recognized. Staff are very good. Salary and benefits good.....however.....

    Cons

    Mastercard must be worried. This video they made (above) is clearly trying to control the bad press about all their recent firings. There are many people finally speaking out about their age discrimination firings in the US and abroad. They are posting bogus jobs at locations (like Belgium) to give the impression that the office is still relevant when everyone internally knows all the jobs are going (or gone) to London and regions and the office is being closed in a few years. I know for a fact that internal HR people create bogus postings about how great the company is, on sites like Glassdoor to counteract the negative ones. HR and reviews are used as managers to get back at employees or get rid of employees. It is a great set up.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the facade and damage control because the law suits are right behind you.

    Pros

    Pay is great and the company is located in Westchester which is a great commute for those within 15-20 minutes of the location. Lot of great people that work at MC.

    Cons

    Leadership is based on ensuring you sit well with the CEO.. if not... you're out. Lots of miserable people. No opportunity for growth especially for minorities... horrible bosses which is encouraged by CEO... Company has invested funds into getting rid of positions or people that don't meet the current "culture". Employees are encouraged to hire talent that are under 30 to drive culture change driven by the CEO. However the catch is that the new talent get frustrated as there is no room to grow. If they feel you get frustrated (young or seasoned talent), they will eliminate your role. Not very innovative and trying hard to hire talent to make them innovative and eliminate those that have been there for a while.

    Great people to work with Relaxed Atmosphere Nice Benefits Very Social Great CEO and opportunities -depending on what team you end up in

    Overall MasterCard is a great company to work for- but this depends what department you work in. If like me you were stuck in the wrong department it can make or break your career. There were no bonuses, no promotions and no follow through if you raised issues about how things were run. They was a serious lack in communication and although they said they were improving this I hadn't noticed any changed before leaving the company. Many people have left the department due to micromanagement, and more are seeking employment outside the company, which is a shame considering the level of expertise they have. I would have remained in the company if an opportunity in another department had become available but unfortunately this did not happen. HR and Management would rather lose good employees than listen to their concerns.

    Advice to Management

    take on board employee's concerns, especially when management receive lower than 5 score on reviews. If this was the other way around managers would be quick to act. Budgets need to be standardized across the company, it is very demotivating to see other employees promoted or able to travel 1st class when your team cannot even get a tea and coffee allowance for client meetings.

    Pros

    There are plenty of pros if you are a "green badge" employee, like good pay, benefits, modern facilities, and team outings. These only applies to a minority of the staff as most people are "red badge" contractors.

    Cons

    "Red badge" contractors make up the bulk of the workforce, and they are treated horribly. During the recession, MasterCard forced annual 10+% pay cuts on consultants. Converting from contractor to employee is extraordinarily difficult.
