I have been working at MasterCard as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Lot of great people to learn from- and a lifetime of expertise in the payments industry

    Cons

Can feel a bit outdated at times- needs younger blood

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Doing a great job reforming the college recruiting process! Keep expanding to schools, and aim high!

I worked at MasterCard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits. Mostly very good hard working people. Depending on your role and the people you work with it is a great place to work.

    Cons

Too much political wrangling. As in all large organizations the person you work for can make all the difference. Management can make it very difficult for you to advance if they want too which needs to change if they want to keep quality individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure your employees have a real chance for moving throughout the company and remove barriers that allow current managers to stop that movement

    Pros

    Cons

Some lifer mentality, has apparently changed under new ceo

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For true cultural change, need to switch out some of mgmt below CEO - still all the same as with last CEO

    Pros

Great community spirit. Excellent comp and bonus. Ajay Banga proved to be a great leader.

    Cons

Politics. Lots of who you know rather than what you know. If you don't play the game, you don't get noticed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It a great company. Just don't trip over yourself.

Current Employee - Leader in Purchase, NY

I have been working at MasterCard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The pros to working at Mastercard include the following: location, facility, work-life balance, the ability to work from home if necessary.

    Cons

One of the cons i would say is that there are less growth opportunities than may be at other financial services company mainly due to MasterCard's relatively small size when compared to banks

I have been working at MasterCard full-time

    Pros

Most of the people are great to work with. Individuals very dedicated to success of their teams and the company overall. Lots of opportunity to learn if a person makes the effort. Plenty of perks, benefits, and reasonable salaries.

    Cons

Promotions and salary increases are infrequent and not always based on ability. Progression in the company requires a lot of networking. Although the company tries to promote a good work/life balance, the workload makes it nearly impossible. Lots of overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on supporting and retaining talented individuals with recognition and opportunities for advancement. Middle managers need to refocus on people management.

    Pros

Good team culture across departments. Good training.

    Cons

Slow moving, cautious, conservative. They miss opportunities due to this slowness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at MasterCard

    Pros

At the center of a profitable, dynamic industry.

    Cons

Strong business model means it can be hard to tie effort to results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on accountability and how people really manage (not managing up). Allow more real innovation unleashed from the core technology limitations and requirements that are for network operations, not new intiative development. Move around key executives to allow for fresh perspectives.
