    Full time employee

Sales (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsGood benefits, decent pay, overtime pay available, publicly traded strong portfolio company, aggressive sales force Monday through Friday paid holidays

ConsRarely promote within. Have people in charge that have a lack of respect and care for employees below them. Management in charge of employees that have no clue of the employees work load or experience. Ticket operating system is a joke. Lack of training for a lot of positions. You are asked all the time to speak up if you see ways the company can improve quality and safety and when you do your shot down like your a coward. High high turnover rate attrition rate for front line employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop favoring kiss asses. Stop looking down on employees who just might have more experience then you. Stop rewarding the bottom dollar over safety. The company would never admit that but it's so true it's a joke so they overkill the safety meetings, conference calls, etc to hide the fact.

Not much excitement, not much to complain about either

Operations Analyst (Current Employee) Irving, TX

ProsYou have a lot of freedom to carry out your job. The pay is reasonable compared to the job market. Most everyone in the company you work with is competent and pleasant. The overall culture is to be helpful to your fellow employees.

ConsThere are not a lot of advancement opportunities. It is in an industry that is mature so there isn't a lot of exciting new ground to be broken. Most of the competition with other companies consists of coaxing away each other's customers. Senior management does not do a very good job of communicating a sense of direction or what is really going on in the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay as much attention to the people down the organizational hierarchy as you pay to the people above you.

Prosbenefits are top notch Work Schedule is very flexible free to run my route without mgt watching me like a hawk

Conscommunication is the key Our branch acts like a corporate office guys running around with only one thing on theri minds

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit micro managing the branches like they are down the street from the corparate office. Each part of the country has its own unique operating needs We are all not in Texas

    Customer Service Admin

ProsBeing a large organization Matheson offers some very good benefits.

ConsGrowing pains. I'm sure how this company handled selling product prior to us being aquired, however, the way they handle customer payments is stone age.

If you are new Matheson is great place to work. If you were acquired there is some pain.

    Account Manager (Current Employee)

ProsLarge competetive company. Pretty much able to manage yuor own territory without a lot over supervision. Good benefits. Comparable salary to the other large gas companies, however no where near what our company paid before the acquisition of our former company.

ConsMahtheson is experiencing way too many growing pains. Employee morale in my 15 years of service to this industry has never been lower by myself and fellow account managers with the compensation program. Advancement seems to be an issue. Do too well in your position, penalty, stay right where you are.. Too many promotions to people who don't have a clue or were non producers. Independent distributors seem to treat their people more personally. Decisions and implementation of any project takes way too long. Accounting department is incompetent. I agree with most of the comments already posted. Their software program on the retail side is a problem and very inefficient. Excessive, almost laughable safety expectations.

Advice to Senior ManagementSlow down with the acquisitions and get back to who really counts. The customer and your employees' happiness. Find a simpler software program. The TIMS system is a mess, locks up way too often and is not user friendly. Inventory levels are a mess and difficult to enter as an order. I have worked for 3 different industrial gas companies and have been very disappointed in this operation so far. As soon as I can, I am begging for my old job back. The old proverbial saying the grass is not greener on this side of the fence.

Took a huge cut in commission on their new compensation package for 2011. It cost me a home.

    Account Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe job is best job in the world. The people are great that I work with, middle management seems like they understand product and customer service. Great benefits

ConsThe new commission plan is the worse I have ever seen. Eg. $104,000 in gross profit in one month. Commission check $206. Our company was purchased by Matheson. This check with my former company would have been $2806.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGet real!!
