    I worked at Matrikon

    Pros

    - Learn A LOT through "trial by fire"
    - Projects are generally quite interesting
    - Travel is nice if you are young and single

    Cons

    - Work-Life balance
    - Salary
    - Benefits
    - Reward and recognition program geared towards sales staff
    - Unrealistic project timeframes (i.e. 6 months of work guaranteed to be completed in 8 weeks)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating the product development staff like second class citizens. Work on creating a culture that is desireable for developers to work in.

A great place to learn how not to do something

    I worked at Matrikon

    Pros

A really great place to work with young, enthusiastic and hard working people. You might make some great connections and learn a lot. You will most likely learn all of the wrong ways to do something, which is great experience for your next job.

    Cons

The manager of my department would frequently lie to us and have private one on one meetings to try and pit us against each other.

Matrikon is a software development company but they have no money to fund IT infrastructure. IT staff get trained in how to manipulate and lie to the other employees and successfully deny hardware/software requests so that company morale is not affected. The truth must not be revealed!

You will be given just enough rope to hang yourself with. If you are hired it is most likely because you are young, naive and fresh out of school; this is because you won't know better at first. If you show initiative and desire you will be quickly promoted - no one will tell you that your salary is completely negotiable and you have to fight for it. Once promoted you will be given harder projects; you most likely will not be given the resources you need because the company has no money. You will be able to get some help and advice from your co-workers but all the actual experience has either left the company or been fired because experience costs to much.

Don't bother talking to the HR department. Their job is to weed out malcontents like yourself and make sure your manager keeps a close eye on you.

The company slogan is "Bleed Matrikon".

You might work really hard, put in extra work, volunteer for extracurricular activities and get fired anyway.

A stock price below $3 for over 2 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just give up and sell. You are horrible people and no one has any faith in you.

A good stepping stone company. Just don't get stuck.

I have been working at Matrikon

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn a lot within your field and a solid foundation to use elsewhere. A year at Matrikon is like several at many other dev shops. If you know how to get yourself noticed and can make yourself look good (even if you aren't all that great) you can easily get on the good side of management and move up quickly.

    Cons

Large amounts of overtime are expected and compensation does not reflect the amount of work that is done or required. There are many phonies that have to be dealt with. If you don't agree with management, you will be singled out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to compensate your employees what they deserve. This is the biggest reason for attrition along with poor management practices (ex: singling out, unreasonable deadlines, etc)
