I worked at Mattel part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

1/2 day Fridays. Good pay and benefits. Good products with a huge marketing machine for support.

    Cons

Long hours. Mattel tends to lay people off when they get very high on the pay scale, even if they are doing a great job. Not a place you can work 30 years and retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

no extra hours of working, half day friday

    Cons

too much dependent on long timers. Most employees are there for more than 10 years and they don't embrace new people well.

I have been working at Mattel full-time

    Pros

Fun place to work, good for those who like a flexible and unstructured environment, plenty of room for business growth/new ideas, great for entrepreneurs and those coming from a Fortune 50, really good people, great work life balance, solid global exposure, great brand recognition, good benefits (1/2 day fridays, on site day care, gym and dry cleanres, subsidized cafe's, etc.)

    Cons

not good for those who prefer structured environments, could use better succession, strategy and financial planning, IT infrastructure needs work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

leading companies within their industry tend to promote from within to get the best ROI and maintain top tier talent while also creating a motivating environment with solid succession planning, P&G is a great example to learn from

I have been working at Mattel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a reason why this company has been voted one of the best places to work. The people, benefits (daycare onsite, gym onsite, cleaners onsite, medical/dental). If you love working with passionate, collaborative people, then this is definitely the place for you.

    Cons

Mattel would serve there employees by being more transparent to the road of promotions. There is not always a clear path, and the obscuity may lead to a perception of politics to promote versus capabilities/commitment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a group of employees who have a lot of creative, thoughtful ideas on how to make the company more successful. You don't always need to rely on outside consultants to tell you what your team may already know. You can extract that value by ensuring people do not fell penalized for coming up with ideas that may not be successful.

    Pros

excellent corporate culture, growing company, growth opportunity for the employees at the lower level. The top management is always looking for opportunities to grow.
