    Pros

Mattress Firm is a multibillion dollar company that runs like a small mom and pop shop. They take the time to thoroughly train their employees as well as continuous training through out your whole career. Mattress Firm gives back to their local communities as well as Nationwide. In Jacksonville over the last 3 years I have been able to be a part of the annual Toys for Tots drive, Collecting donations for Pancreatic Cancer, we even had each store paint their own PANCVAN paintings to sell for donations to T-Gen. I was able to participate in gifting the OLDEST WOMAN in Jacksonville (114) a brand new Tempurpedic bed. As well we provided $44,000 worth of beds to The Hubbard House which is a battered women's shelter. I was able to help spread the word and participate in the opening of Somers Garden in Orange Park FL which is a memory garden for a 7 year old girl that was abducted, assaulted and murdered. We also worked with Florida Baptist Children's Home on a canned food drive where we delivered over 700 cans of food to the center for orphan children. Not only do they focus on the happiness of each and every guest, member of the community but also their employees. This company is so focused on making sure you have all the tool needed to succeed not only in your life at the store, but also your personal life. I was with them for just over 3 years and quickly rose through the ranks to become an Area Manager, today 7/31/15, is my last day with the company. It took a lot of thinking AND PRAYING to make the switch to a different company, which I actually turned down twice prior to the third offer. It is just time in my life right now where my family needs me to make the change. OTHERWISE I WOULD BE A FIRMER FOREVER!!! When I put in my 2 weeks notice my District manager was a little sad, but understood it was for my family and his exact words were that he wants me to be happy. The mindset in Jacksonville is that we are a family not just people that work together. We do things together in our off time and we are always there for each other. There was a time at the beginning of my career with MFRM that I was in a bad place, the confidence and backing I had at Mattress Firm helped me get out of a very toxic, abusive relationship and relearn who I am and become a more stable, independent woman! There is nothing bad I can say about this company. Truly a life changing company to work for!

    Cons

The ONLY con to working here is as with ANY retail job the hours are long. You do have to work most weekends and there is a lot of time that you are not with your family. The only reason I am leaving is because I am at a point in my life where I need to be home more with my children. I am not just a single mother, but I am the ONLY parent. When my children's father died in 2012 I called my District Manager to let him know I would be out for a few days and he was fine with that, told me to take as long as I needed.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing! Jacksonville has an amazing management team, from the Area Manager team which I was blessed to be a part of, to the District Managers! The training and support you offer is second to none and continues to make successful leaders come from the Jacksonville market!!

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to both grow and make a sizeable amount of money! Great people to work with and a very family oriented environment. Competitive and upbeat.

    Cons

Have to work every weekend and holiday. Sometimes the days can be long as you may not see a ton of guests come through the doors

    Advice to Management

Management is pretty great! Maybe find a way to get people together more in order to build a bigger team morale

    Pros

Great training program, all the upper management team want me to success, they give us all the tools we need and all very willing to teach. Great friendly environment to work in.

    Cons

In order to be successful, you will also need to push your own limit. With all the freedom and trust they give you, sometimes you will end up being in the store alone. You could be the one person sitting around doing nothing and just wait for a guest to walk in.

    Advice to Management

During training, try to have only 1 trainee per trainer. Other than that, everything else seems to be very nice so far.

    Pros

Mattress Firm is an awesome company to work for with great culture, growth opportunities as well as compensation. Been with the company for three and a half years and it's been a good experience.

    Cons

While the company has a great culture and cares about it's people, there are some issues with the long hours and holiday work days. You have an opportunity to make lots of money on those weekends and holidays so it eases some of the pain if you're money motivated.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to add more people to the staff to create an opportunity to have more work life balance.

    Pros

The culture. This company is all about employees that want to move and change and grow. When you want the next position on the career track they will mentor and work with you to qualify you for the next level of management. The variety of positions for a retail environment is the best I've ever encountered. you are really only competing with yourself when you want to move up. The contributions that Mattress Firm makes to its community was also a selling point for me. mattress Firm Foundation proceeds go to the T-Gen hospital in AZ to help with clinical trials and research for Pancreatic Cancer. Bed Talks... Google it. They are industry related but it's a week long conference with different speakers similar to Ted Talks. Their business stratigy is about making the guests experience the best. Customers and employees happiness is always first. I could go on for days.

    Cons

Long hours. Minimum shifts are open to close. Add Holiday hours and meetings and trainings and you can easily have close to 60 hour work weeks.as a Manager in Duty it can be frustrating traveling from store to store everyday.

    Advice to Management

Be open to explaining to the employees some of the reasons for some policies or practices that are not laid in writing. If your employees can wrap their head around the "why" of it it may be easier to put it to practice.

    Pros

There were many great things about this position! The most important thing to me was the culture. I loved that it was a team/family environment. In addition to that, the company provides a great training program and you will never feel like you are done learning. Lastly, the growth opportunities are unlimited!

    Cons

One con I could think of is that you have times that you can work alone. Just make sure to find things to do and keep yourself busy. That definitely helped me.
