I have been working at McDermott full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Past projects
A very few supervisors with great technical knowledge

    Cons

A lot. First, a short sighted decision to layoff conventional engineering.
Laid off people who were working for 30 years and more, who are supposed to be the face of the company.
Once used to be innovative, but not now. Atleast, not in Houston.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The best way to get better quarterky results is to do innvoative, challenging and profitable projects. Not closing offices. At this rate only upper management will stay.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Location - Energy Corridor best area of town. Going through restructuring, but should come through okay. Employs various cultures, very friendly.

    Cons

Disorganized. Management could work harder to unify the groups. Need more team building.

    Pros

Wonderful employees, great knowledge base for those who want to get industry experience

    Cons

Some of the worst upper management I have seen - way to political for my taste, not enough clear direction

I have been working at McDermott full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I was able to work flexible hours and learned many different job duties in my 23 years of services.

    Cons

Decisions are sometimes made without input from experienced and knowledgable employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit hiring and trusting the word of an outsider. Go to the actual workers for their advise and opinions and react on their ideas or comments not someone who hasn't worked for the company longer than 15 years.

I have been working at McDermott

    Pros

good job selections and the chance to work in exciting places. the client list is great and there are exciting opportunities.

    Cons

the salaries could be better, but benefits are ok. i have worked in better places, but i have also worked in worse places. the use of cubicles is not to everybodys liking, but the we are coping for the moment. I think they may be building a new building soon to help with all of this.
