Horrible experience

Mcdonalds Shift Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at McDonald's full-time for more than 8 years

ProsFlexible schedule but only because other employees are willing to cover shifts.

ConsCustomers always treat you like garbage. Pay is very low even as a manager. Ask staff to perform illegal tasks like changing employees time punches to cut labor costs, make people clock out and continue to work, and do the same to minors so that it looks like they left at curfew when they really did not.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou make so much money, actually recognizing employees by compensating them with better wages and just leaving peoples time punches alone. And when store managers get called out on it, do not threaten to take the accuser to court for lying about it.

Also, changing the schedule after it is released but not notifying those affected could at least be covered up a little better than with white out and a different colored pen. And when it was clearly changed, do not write up employees for not coming in to work.

Thirdly, hire upper management that actually puts in a 40 hour work week. If they are salary and in charge of a store, they should be there more than one weekend a month.

FORMER EMPLOYEE OF MCDONALDS

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at McDonald's

ProsThe food is the best reason to work there. Before I worked at McDonalds i didn't eat any for two or 3 tears then I realized how addicting & good it was.

ConsHard work for minimum wage in which you should be getting paid more. Not the most professional environment. The customers can be really rude.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe nicer. Be more professional and stop treating your emplyees so mean.

Decent coworkers, too much work for laughable pay

Crew Member/Grill Cook/Cashier (Current Employee)
McLeansville, NC

I have been working at McDonald's part-time for more than a year

ProsMy store is relatively new so it's well-maintained and the managers are hardworking (for the most part) and generally optimistic. Flexible schedules, limitless unpaid time off.

ConsIt doesn't cost McDonald'anything to raise the cost of its food and in turn give its employees a decent salary. In fact, several months ago, a number of dollar menu items increased in price and not a single person at my store got any sort of raise for it. I'm paid by the hour and minimum wage where I live is 7.25 - that's what I started on despite my office and customer service experience and it's taken me a year to start making 7.50 (25c raise over 12mo.). Managers regularly comment on how efficiently I work as well as my dependability and because of food costs as well as lousy ethics, I am not paid for the effort I put in (did I mention I'm trained on as many roles as the average manager?), and I am far from unique in my experience. It's impossible to move up unless the GM is in the mood to start looking. I've been trying to get promoted for roughly 6 mo. and while my supervisors and GM agree that I should be an official Crew Trainer, nobody will initiate the process online for me due to poor memory and lack of organization. On addition, while the schedule is flexible, if you want time off, it needs to be asked off a week or so in advance. I can't tell you how many extra credit opportunities I've missed at school because professors won't mention them until 5 or 6 days before they take place, well after my schedule for the week has been established.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake it easier for employees to initiate the promotion process autonomously via the computer in the break room so all the GM has to do is review scores, etc. Also make the weekly schedule available online and create easy-to-read availability sheets for employees who need to update their availability - I have no idea how supervisors keep track of schedule changes overall and I'm tired of having to talk to a manager every week about adjusting my schedule because I'm being asked to come in during times my school schedule doesn't allow!

Worst Employer Ever

Shift Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at McDonald's full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe only positive is the interaction you get with all kinds of people. Specially the ones you work with. I have seen extremely hard working people.

ConsThis company has extremely high turnover. The upper management does not care about the employees. There isn't a fixed schedule, one day your are closing and a few days you will be forced to open.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to appreciate the hard work of your employees.

Hot work low wages

Fryer Cook (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at McDonald's part-time for less than a year

ProsYou get to eat all the burned fries and hamburgers and stale lettuce and old tomatoes and milkshakes that got too warm.

ConsYou can only afford to eat the unhealthy food that is available here, you get no respect and no chance to ever improve your condition.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay minimum wage to ALL workers, even if they are teenagers or new. No one should have to work for the low pay that you offer here.
