Current Employee – been working at McDonald's full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Flexible hours
Simple job (when you first start)
Cool people
Half price food
That is where the lists of pros stop.
Cons – Health "benefits" cost over half your paycheck
Don't expect to recieve any recognition for your work
Once you have worked there longer that a couple months the begin to schedule you as a one person army. I am often placed running the prep table, grill, and fryers at the same time by myself during lunch rush.
Management is incompetent and corporate lives in a fantasy land and will ignore most workplace issues (sexual harassment, racist slurs, etc.)
Tons of rude customers that think they are at a Gordon Ramsay resturant and not a McDonald's
Advice to Senior Management – You need to realize at your franchise stores they are only following corporate rules when you are there. The moment you leave owner operators make up their own rules and completely disregard important health and safety guidelines. I often have to serve people dangerous food because my owner operator wants to save a dime. This is happened under all 3 owner operators I have worked for in different regions. It's rediculus!

Former Employee – worked at McDonald's part-time for less than a year
Pros – a fast paycheck, start that day
Cons – small paycheck, no one stays longer than a week
only one in the whole kitchen, had to clean, cook, prepare food, grill, restock, wash dishes, and put orders out all at once
Advice to Senior Management – be more reasonable

Former Employee – worked at McDonald's part-time for less than a year
Pros – none unless you enjoy being yelled at
Cons – Low pay, I worked 6 days a week and didint even bring home $200
No training-everyone runs over and yells at you if do something wrong or take too long.
Calls at home at 7am on my day off...lol ok
The batteries on my headset went dead while I was working the drive up. I could not hear the customers. More yelling from the supervisor. When I told her I coundt hear anyone and didint realize there were customers waiting, she said "Oh ok" and walked away to get me a different headset. No apology for yelling at me.
Advice to Senior Management – Train your employees and treat them like human beings. I was so disgusted I just quit showing up.

Former Employee – worked at McDonald's part-time for less than a year
Pros – Earned money, learned that people are not very nice
Cons – Treated like an idiot; especially if they find out you have a degree, then they make you feel like you are the worst for having to work there. Worked at the drive thru and they tell you it's your fault the cars are lining up; even though what is holding up the line are the cooks. Upsetting to have customers yell at you and then have managers take their side. Very frustrating, micromanaged, treated very badly for very little pay. I was not given a promotion because a guy who had been fired and rehired got it. My site was run by a family so lots of family stuff going on.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't treat people like they are stupid when they are not.

Former Employee – worked at McDonald's part-time for more than a year
Pros – Sneaking McNuggets was a definite pro. When the manager wasn't around, the atmosphere was pretty chill. I could go for extended periods of time without talking to anyone. I also enjoyed pressing down the ketchup plunger and feeling that delicious red sauce squirt out.
Cons – Physically uncomfortable and mentally draining. Very little upward mobility, governed mostly by office politics rather than merit. Employee creativity is geared toward ways to cut corners & do less work more easily, rather than trying to improve the company or corporate culture.
Advice to Senior Management – Serve healthier food! McCafe's are where it's at!

Pros – -not as strict as other jobs
-usually no more than 40hrs for full time
-free stuff every once in awhile
-easy to call off, or request days off
Cons – -it's a greasy, dirty job
-low pay
-favoritism used for promotions
-breaks are ALWAYS given either too early or too late
