    Pros

Decent salary, insurance effective from day 1

    Cons

cold, impersonal. Hard to get promoted. Advancement is based on who you know rather than what you know.

    Advice to Management

Employee work-life balance needs to be valued more by management.

Run, don't walk. Bad management from top to bottom. This ship is sinking and sinking fast.

    Pros

Rank and file employees are good at what they do and have somehow managed to build a team driven environment on their own. If you are interested in management roles, this would be a great place to learn how not to manage a company.

    Cons

I just read an article listing seven signs of a toxic work place. Sadly, this company exhibits them all. I have on more than one occasion personally witnessed racism, sexism and ageism. Favoritism and preferential treatment are standard operating procedures. Working conditions are poor, bordering on unsafe.

Bad management rules throughout the company, from the top down. As a result, the bottom line is threatened and the company is failing. I am getting out before things worsen. I don’t want to go down with the ship.

    Advice to Management

Clean house from top to bottom. Rebuild with new management team who understands it isn't' 1950 anymore. Employees are your best asset, not your worst enemy. Treat them as such.

    Pros

There are some nice people, and there is always something for you to do or work on.

    Cons

The quality department is severely lacking in their quality of leadership. MWV company does not care about employees below a certain paygrade and all Manpower employees are below that paygrade, you will also never be hired on full time from Manpower to MWV as it is much cheaper for MWV to employ people through Manpower. Almost everyone there has a jock mentality from high school, especially management. This is also a high stress environment and if you are a Manpower Employee working for MWV you are likely working with someone who wants a slave instead of an employee.

    Advice to Management

To lower the stress values of current employees serious consideration should be given to hiring more employees. The people I worked with are stressed to the point of requiring medical attention and the only way to lower their stress values would be to hire more people to take on some of their duties.

    Pros

Very few, old school mentality, 8-5 environment, no future career path. Run by some of the least qualified people. Company will be taken over or merged in the near future to survive

    Cons

Horrible HR practices, no life balance, no bonuses to workers but 9th floor fat cats got paid while laying off people who made the company profitable after self inflicted wounds from the 9th floor

    Advice to Management

Step down before you further destroy the company. Have mercy on it and merge or let a take over happen. The Luke reign is over.

    Pros

Overall decent place to work, clients are friendly, smart and usually willing to work with you. Salaries are OK. Benefits are good. Free parking which is unusual for downtown Richmond. Nice cafeteria and gym onsite.

    Cons

The management of the Legal Department are old fashioned, bad communicators and there are very few good managers. It has the feel of a Northeastern Law firm where hierarchy reigns, resistance to change is high and problems are ignored (if you don't like it here just leave). They talk a good game for being inclusive and concerned about making it a good place to work but they are so in their box and just satisfied with the fact that the work is getting done. The reality is that most people, not all, are overworked and very unhappy and but for the bad economy of the last several years turn-over in this department would have been much higher.

    Advice to Management

Implement 360 reviews for all managers and include the contractors in the evaluations because some of them have been here longer than most employees.

    Pros

The employees are great....that's about it.

    Cons

It's a very hierarchical company...you don't dare go near where the leadership sits on the 9th floor at their Richmond HQ. They try to seem like a progressive company, but they are very old school corporate; they overlook great employees and promote their favorites; certain people are protected, even when they engage in bad behavior; they've been losing business so they are laying off people and not treating them with respect, not letting them work for a little while until their job goes away; they keep passing off healthcare costs to employees while employing a concierge doctor for their executives.

    Advice to Management

Clean house at the top...that's where the companies' issues stem from; treat your employees like you value them; don't keep executes around on "special projects" when they don't succeed at their job.
