    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MEDecision is not for everyone. But it is no better or no worse than the majority of IT firms in the marketplace.

After many years at MEDecision, the question comes back to what is good about it. The answer is always the same. This company has attracted some amazing talent, team players, and innovators that continue to "fight the fight". To management, honor those people. They still believe in the company, despite the struggles of the past few years. They should be rewarded for their dedication and belief in the company's vision.

To potential employees, If you are looking for a textbook job, then MEDecision is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a place where you will be challenged, asked to step outside your comfort zone, and work alongside dedicated people, then please submit your resume. I will gladly work next to you as we fight the fight and innovate new ways to offer healthcare solutions.

    Pros

Interesting time to be working in health care IT; great opportunity to work on a new project designed to address the current and future needs in the industry; much flexibility for work/life balance.

    Cons

Inability of senior management to make decision that allow projects to proceed in a timely manner - frustrating starts and stops; leads to being behind others in having a product ready for market - question the viability of the company long-term - not nimble; lag in creating world-class customer service - long history; performance evaluation program is all about structure that rewards high-flyers but does little to provide substantive support for employee development - deadlines are regularly not met by senior staff with no accountability and MJOs are created/revised without discussion halfway through the year.

    I worked at Medecision full-time

    Pros

    - Work/life balance - There are some stressful times, but they are predictable
    - People - Very talented, helpful, and collaborative
    - Casual environment
    - Ability to have a say and feel empowered.

    Cons

    - Too much negativity in remaining employees
    - Separation between the worker bees and the executive leadership team. Feels like two separate worlds
    - Slow response to adopt new technologies or adapt
    - Resistance to change because of fear of risk

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Undoubtedly, MEDecision has had a bumpy road over the recent years. But holding onto the past, pointing fingers, and hoping for the good ol' days is not going to help the company progress. There is much more opportunity at MEDecision for employees to influence change than at bigger corporations where everyone is truly a number and pigeon-holed. Encourage everyone to collaborate and "breakthrough" the walls that separate everyone.

I have been working at Medecision

    Pros

They gave me a great salary. Also, there's some really smart people there, who know so much about technology. Additionally, open source software is not just tolerated; it's used almost everywhere. The people are pretty fun to be around too.

    Cons

Management is not good, overall. Some managers are awesome, don't get me wrong, but others are very risk averse, unmotivational, and suck any willingness you may have to do right by the company.

If you end up as a coder, realize that the code is a mess. Management is too risk averse (overall) to try to fix that.

The direction of the company is gonna be interesting under the new CEO (Miss Gage).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MEDecision is a software company; it should be led by software people. The missed deadlines, many bugs, etc. is a result of poor technological management.

    Pros

Medecision has a very good compensation / benefit package. Time off, 401K and salary were all fair to good. People were great.

    Cons

It always seemed like management was following its own agenda nad not letting the masses in on what was really going on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be good to set clear goals and make sure you stick by your staff when they are carring them out.
