I have been working at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Overall some of the best people I have met in life.

    Cons

Like most say. There are managerial roles where the thinking of the 1940's is a ok mindset. Those bad seeds protect and stick together. Human resources will only step in and help if they have violated your human rights. They won't even allow you to prove your right. Really sad because I actually would love to stay here. Those bad seeds along with HR left a bad taste with me. Ruined my thoughts of this place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Longevity doesn't mean someone is doing there job correctly. Check out the people that have been sitting and coasting to retirement. It's not right how some employees are treated.

I have been working at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits and the facilty is nice. Direct supervisors are good for the most part.

    Cons

Human Resources is a disaster and should be avoided at all costs. Leadership needs to be put in line. There's too many managers and not enough staff. When one of my managers left they were replaced by 3 new people who supposedly still can't get the job done and considering hiring a 4th person. Really hard to move up within the college. Pay is below average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back on management not staff. There's no need to take doctors that you're trying to recruit out for $50-$100 a plate dinners; they'll come based on the institution not the quality of steak you bought them. Listen to staff employees when they complain about a manager; when a department burns through 6-7 people for one position in 5 years or less there may be an issue.

I worked at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Better benefits than most comparable facilities.

    Cons

Management team is quite the bully. Demeaning and uncaring behavior which seems to go unnoticed even with supporting evidence and documentation. Difficult to advance or promote unless management really likes you for reasons beyond the scope of the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees with the same courtesy and respect you are given. Employees are human with feelings. Appreciate those who work hard and go above and beyond. Don't just say it's expected or bully those who may been seriously ill or injured and what comes around goes around.

I have been working at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a regular staff (not faculty, not medical professionals), working for the college gives you all the perks of working for an academic institution. In general, the working environment is relaxed. Most of your work days are not intense. You do not have too many deadlines to catch. You can pretty much work with your own pace as long as you complete all you assigned task to the managers satisfaction. Health insurance plan is decent, you get to pay very little copay.

    Cons

The whole college evolves around physicians. As such, the college does not provide much career advancement opportunities for regular staffs. Even you get above average job performance review, you are not promoted unless there is 'quota'/budget available. Physicians can take any classes offered by the college for free without any approval from any one, yet the same benefit are not offered to staff.
Don't expect much about your salary or employee benefits other than the health insurance. In the median to low range of the market.

    Cons

UNFAIR treatment of employees, manager is always right attitude, micromanagement, lack of appreciation for putting extra time in,ie coming in early, staying late,no lunches. No compassion when an employee is ill/off of work for a surgical procedure, etc.

I worked at Medical College of Wisconsin

    Pros

Very good lab experience for recent college graduates in biology, biochemistry, or related medical science.
Excellent benefits package, hard to beat!
    Clean facilities for research.

    Cons

Experiences vary greatly depending on direct managers/supervisors.
Pay rates are relatively low, the great benefits may or may not make up for this depending on your situation.
If you are a recent college graduate, professional growth will be limited at MCW. Consider it a college education you get paid for, it is not a corporate work environment.
