Middle and upper management has no clue on successfully running this business, even with all the supposed experience.

I have been working at Medifast full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

We help our clients on a daily basis to lose weight and also to keep it off. This is a very emotional and passionate business, so the successes and challenges of our clients impact us everyday. The work atmosphere at our center is very positive and uplifting.

    Cons

As of July 2014 Medifast Inc. sold 12 Northern Virginia an Maryland locations to Transformu LLC. Initially the change was viewed as a fantastic for the employees of these centers. At the first meeting the new employer talked up a very convincing game on how bright the future would be. We heard business would increase dramatically with the advertising campaign that was going to be implemented. Also we were told that our current compensation plan wold be discontinued and a fresh and exciting plan would be unveiled in a month or two. This created a lot of anticipation and excitement at that meeting. We are one week away from our fourth month and compensation has not even been addressed! Goals were raised unilaterally in October to unattainable levels for 75% of the centers. Upper management want us to use many of another weight loss competitor's strategy's and guidelines to run our business. The most egregious is a paper calender to track our appointments and sales consultations. We have a fantastic web based application that does everything related to the business however we are required to get all pertinent information from the program and write it down on this large calender. It is a total waste of time. The company is run like a dictatorship and people are looking elsewhere for opportunities. Unless things drastically change the future is not bright!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We do need our own compensation plan. Not addressing this matter is very mystifying. Management should also set the example of "being the brand". Employees should have some previous relevant experience before managing or training others. Be more original. It is like you are using your previous employers standard operating procedures
manual, and calling it your own.

    Overworked and Underpaid

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Medifast part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The thought of helping at-risk individuals achieve healthy lifestyle transformation was my initial attraction to this company. The company promotes its 35-year history of helping over a million people achieve healthy weight loss at the recommendation of 20,000 physicians.

    Cons

Long hours, low salaries and perpetual pressure to sell overpriced products with no marketing support was a constant. Every meeting involved quotas or projections; the more programs sold, the higher the expectations. In addition to 12-hour workdays, vacations practically didn't exist, and many employees were forced to work second jobs because of near minimum-wages. Corporate employees were clueless about center operations, when making unreasonable and untimely demands. Combined with antiquated computer systems and cumbersome administrative processes, this was a paper-pushing nightmare of corporate greed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Require corporate officials to actually work in a center to better understand field operations. Treat employees fairly by providing better work-life balance.

    Cons

No win situation, unrealistic goals, set up for failure. Center Manager have no chance to be successful, your treated like a piece of garbage and upper management just does not care. Worst job I've ever had!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire educated people to put an end to the bad work enviroment that exists in all centers.

I have been working at Medifast full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Helping people achieve their weight loss goal. Working for a well known company.

    Cons

Horrible place to work for. Consultants are terribly under paid. Never ever get a raise. No incentives. No bonuses. Turn around is VERY high. Poor management that is lazy, bullies and micromanages. Company pays very well to directors whose main job is to SELL the program. The rest is on consultants. It is all about the money and NEVER about the client. Consultants are judged on how many clients they can get in and out in an hour and how much they can sell. The worst place I have ever worked for!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be someone from higher up looking at the centers directors. The management is VERY poor in most centers. Company has horrible reputation for a reason. Management just bullies. Promises things they cannot deliver. No one to look up to.

    Pros

Commission & helping people with their weight loss journey.

    Cons

Horrible district managers in certain areas. Workers are bullied and abused. Pay is very low and work life balance is horrible. Thinking back I would have rejected the offer if i knew all of this would happen, not worth the mental abuse. Also, reporting these incidents does not help only makes the situation worse. Clients are not number one priority rather than sucking them dry of all money is top priority. Over- all nothing positive about this place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better educated and professional staff.

    Pros

Working for a well known Brand Name looks nice on the resume.

Free products and health bars. Access to the local gym membership

    Cons

Racism - Some VP's treated African Americans like lower employees or like they weren't as capable to do the work. When I worked there, a woman had great education in law and a particular VP treated her so condescending.

Hierarchy - If you're black OR don't have a certain appeal about you they will ASSUME you work in the Call Center or that you should work the front desk. Both are viewed as "low" in the hierarchy or as company ants. Now if you are in those positions as a minority or are another race and not the corporate ideal blonde, then they will be nice to you because they feel that's where you belong.

    Pros

It's a paycheck, nothing more, no one there cares about the employees or the clients.

    Cons

Upper management is clueless, they are not from the weight management industry and don't understand it. They threaten, intimidate and mistreat employees. There is such as "desperate" desire for success they swing through the air grabbing at anything that they believe will make them money. They have no direction, no communication and NO accountability coming out of Owings Mills, it's all about who your buddies and family are. There is zero integrity, no respect and no appreciation at all. Worst place I've ever working in my life.

I worked at Medifast full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Getting to know and helping the members

    Cons

This company cares about NOTHING BUT MONEY. They claim to care about the members but are constantly cutting back on the services they provide and raising the prices on the meal replacements the members have to buy. They treat the employees very poorly and badger the center managers constantly about sales but will not advertise..they want them to do "grassroot marketing' and bring the prospects in that way alone. I worked there 3 years, the first 6 months was okay but then management kept changing and changing. The last year I was there I was belittled, cussed at, and was stressed most of the time.. They do things to people that are extremely questionable..DO NOT GO HERE. They are selling the centers as franchises and are not forthcoming about the details..always trying to string the employees along. There is no security here...they have been firing people left and right to save money and one of them was there 3 years, she was fired for not updated her sales board ! The previous district manager was constantly making inappropriate comments to the employees and harassing them..they knew but did nothing even though it was reported.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should be honest, stop making empty promises to your employees. Stop treating your employees like garbage. You didn't even give me an exit interview or acknowledge me when I gave notice..I WORKED HARD FOR YOU FOR 3 YEARS .
