Good company to get your career rolling, but you're just a number.

Senior Design Technician (Former Employee)
Mounds View, MN

I worked at Medtronic full-time for more than a year

ProsGood pay and benefits (even though they seem to be decreasing). The working environment decently laid back - some are overloaded and working at a frantic pace, while others are the polar opposite.

ConsToo much bureaucracy. Very heavy on management. Receiving credit for rectifying major problems or being an integral part of a "fire fighting" team more often than not leads nowhere. The company seems to be more interested in hiring engineers to do technician work than having a defined role.

Advice to Senior ManagementEveryone has their specified role - so hire for that type of work. Give people the credit they deserve and promote, promote, promote!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

A company getting crazy from all perspectives

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Minneapolis, MN

I have been working at Medtronic full-time for more than 5 years

Proscompare to other companies, it provides OK benefits. It has floating holidays and stock purchase discount for 15 percent. It has flexible hours.

ConsMany people of color are very frustrated to work here. They are expected to deliver results, but they are not giving enough opportunity to be promoted.

Advice to Senior Managementdon't expect any change.

It would be a great place to work if everyone wasn't worrid to get layed off all the time!

Administrative Assistant III (Current Employee)
Mounds View, MN

I have been working at Medtronic as a contractor for more than a year

ProsVery talented workers, the end result of your work is to save other peoples lives, you gain a lot of useful experience. Lots of new opportunities and room for growth and development.

ConsThe company is ran poorly- too many people in upper management- need to level the management staff, unstable working environment/yearly reduction in force in the people who are actually doing the work that matters and keeping paying huge salaries and living expenses for directors and VP's who live out of state and travel back and forth each week. I put a lot of myself into this company and got very little back.

Advice to Senior ManagementMany jobs could be saved if someone really spent the money from the budgets the way it should be spent... Cut back on the meeting catering and living expenses for higher ups and keep some people who are actually worth the money.

Overall, pretty satisfied after many years at the company.

Market Research Analyst (Current Employee)
Memphis, TN

I have been working at Medtronic full-time for more than a year

ProsHelping patients get access to Medtronic therapies. Fairly stable company, great health, vision, and dental benefits. Overall not a bad place to work.

ConsToo many politics, unbalanced work load (some are swamped, many are barely busy), too big, corporate controls too many aspects of the business, too many presentations.

Advice to Senior ManagementThings need to change - the sales force has been spoiled for too long and don't work hard enough to support the goals of the company. There are people in Memphis who bust their tails trying to help sales while those guys are getting paid tons of money without and recourse if they don't hit quota.

Internship at Tempe campus

Intern Engineering (Former Employee)
Tempe, AZ

I worked at Medtronic full-time for less than a year

ProsBunch of lazy old guys who described it as a place "Where engineers go to die". This is both a pro and a con - if you don't like to work this is the place for you!

ConsIncompetent managers, lazy engineers etc. Felt like my entire job revolved around trying to entertain myself by finding something to do not work related

In my 10+ years of experience I saw a transformation from a Mom & Pop good feeling to a large corporate not caring feel.

Sales Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Medtronic full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe benefits are good while working there.

ConsThere is not much upward advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management lets their own ambition and goals get in the way of those under and above them, be careful.
