Current Employee – been working at Mercer
Pros – Decent benefits, friendly enviornment, management is accomodating. Overall good work enviornment. Majority of calls are 401k based and the lack of education of these 401k participants is very alarming/stressfull.
Cons – non stop calls, very limited education and training. NO career advancement from call center.
Advice to Senior Management – companys current business plan is very good and limits costs. advice would be to have colleges provide more focused education so that highly educated dont wind up in call centers.

Former Employee – worked at Mercer
Pros – - Great People/Collegial Environment
- Good pay at the analyst level
- Great opportunities to pursue business school or move in-house after a couple of years
Cons – - Associate (first promotion) Compensation lags competitors
- Little/no support for pursuing graduate school full time or part time (i.e. MBA)
Advice to Senior Management – Raise the target and maximum bonus levels for associates. It is very possible for high performing associates to earn less than high performing analysts for the same quality and quantity of work

Former Employee – worked at Mercer
Pros – Ability to develop knowledge and skills through client work
Coworkers are very smart; great intellectual stimulation
You will work with very high quality clients
Bonus opportunities are good if the company does well
Cons – The most incompetent people are promoted to managerial roles; they don't care about people at all
Formal development opportunities are almost non-existent. You will only learn on the job.
Very cut throat competition
Advice to Senior Management – Come off the top floor and get to know who your people are, what they do, and how YOU can support them instead of the other way around.

Former Employee – worked at Mercer
Pros – Great colleagues and flagship clients who offer challenging opportunities.
Cons – Leadership is preoccupied looking in the rearview mirror and micro managing expenses versus being a visionary and leading the industry.
Advice to Senior Management – The CEO is new to the consulting business and has no idea how it differs from her other experiences or what is important to clients and what has to be done to enable employees t0 deliver on those promises.

Former Employee – worked at Mercer
Pros – It taught me the basics of consulting-client service and project management.
Cons – Performance assessments were conducted by managers and criteria was unclear for moving to the next level. It functioned as an organization of silos. Very few options for training and/or learning and (if available) were limited to online.
Huge variance on management styles. The manager for the project really determine how efficiently and transparently work was done.
Advice to Senior Management – Criteria for standardizing assessments.

Current Employee – been working at Mercer
Pros – While some managers are better than others, they tend to make sure the best talent get rewarded.
Cons – You will work 60+ hour weeks during busy times.
Advice to Senior Management – Work at keeping the best talent so others 'stars' are not left picking up the slack.

Former Employee – worked at Mercer
Pros – -Good intro in a fast-paced environment
- A lot of ability to work OT and earn some extra money
- Everyone is willing to help and give information
Cons – - Everything is based on stats.. performance, bonuses, raises, etc.
- It's almost a competition as to who can work the most insane hours to get noticed and stand out.
- Clear career path but uncertain as to how soon that could come to fruition.
- At first the call volume is light but once they decide you can take more calls it's non stop throughout the day.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more visible.
