I worked at Merge Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Very down to earth team. Not the typical tell me about time type questions.

    Cons

The office culture was very rigid. Nobody seemed to have fun being in the office. It was just blah

    I worked at Merge Healthcare

    Pros

Some of the software that is being maintained and created is useful and doing well. Merge tries to treat their employees well.

    Cons

There are some software packages that should be put to rest or recreated. Many fires were being put out, blame and drama continued. Trying to make your employees happy and well trained in their jobs is not as good as making sure it gets accomplished.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to listen to their employees, take a deep breath and get more involved. Managers should know more than their employees so that knowledge is disseminated correctly.

I have been working at Merge Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are what make Merge a good place to work. There has also recently been a change in senior management so the long-term outlook may be more promising. Only time will tell.

    Cons

Very competitive environment that is completely sales driven. Most of the work that is done on any given day is driven by what deal or customer issue is happening at that moment. There is no good, transparent roadmap for corporate strategies (or if there is it is not clearly communicated from the top down) which is why there is a high turnover rate. If you are in sales, you're a king. If not, watch out!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more transparent on yearly corporate strategies and reward other employees who aren't in sales. It takes an entire team of support personnel from marketing to product management to operations to R&D to make sales successful!

I worked at Merge Healthcare full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Executive leadership is very progressive and looking to grow the company to be a dominant force in the health care image management space

    Cons

Too many acquisitions can be challenging to merge (no pun intended) with existing businesses. Lots of valuable balls are hitting the ground from a lack of understanding the new acquisitions from upper management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down the acquisitions and focus on what you have

    Good stepping stone

I worked at Merge Healthcare (more than a year)

    Pros

Great place to get healthcare experience, young fun company. They grew fast through acquisitions but seem to be listening to employees now via their employee survey. Making some progress on basic training, career development etc.

    Cons

Too many products and too little training. Mostly have to learn on your own with sink or swim mentality. Low pay and hard work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If pay was competitive could probably retain more employees.

I have been working at Merge Healthcare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I like my job, my co-workers and manager.

    Cons

Witnessing inter-departmental friction is frustrating, especially at this time of the companies evolution. I'd like to see some accountability in middle management and more oversight of it by upper management. Too many times I've observed what I feel is management agenda driving decisions rather than the health of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Gain more visibility into what is happening at lower levels of operation in the company and assist in pulling department heads together to affect and enforce change.

I have been working at Merge Healthcare

    Pros

Interesting technology, plenty of opportunity to make improvements, growth vertical.

    Cons

Healthcare is traditionally a low spend vertical, hence low pay too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget is takes more than just sales to grow a business
