I have been working at Merkle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

VERY impressed with the company's ability to change. Senior management is actually listening, even when some detractors don't think they are. As the company changes, the opportunity to affect change is huge.

    Cons

A very fast paced, "figure this out" sort of culture. Could use more mentor programs. While the culture is evolving, there is still a remnant of "here's how we've always done it" at play.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to your people. Integrate your acquired company staffs as soon as possible into the main company.

I have been working at Merkle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many smart people--from bottom to top there are many smart people working at Merkle. I have especially appreciated that senior management is competent, and in my experience tries to make smart and fair decisions.

Work schedule and location is flexible--the most flexible of companies I have worked at. You are expected to work hard and get the work done, but you can usually decide the how on your own terms.

You are given independence in your work. I like places that hire you to do a job and let you do it. Most managers are so busy on their own projects, they don't have time to tell you how to do your job--they expect you to know your stuff and get going on your own. Not a place for people who need hand-holding, and frankly I like it that way.

Merkle is heading in the right direction. The clients and project work in my case have been fantastic, and opportunities are plentiful. I feel like I am growing exponentially here, which is the biggest reason I continue to work here.

    Cons

Salaries seem fair, but I hate the bonus program. It is not based on your individual performance in any direct way, and you can count on seeing maybe half the number you were promised.

Merkle focuses waaaay too much on things like client billable hours. I understand they are running a business, but they need to flip this around to focus >90% of their efforts on client satisfaction, and then secondarily on client hours.

Merkle invests very little in employee training and development at all levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on client satisfaction over everything else. Be consistent and smarter with bonus, promotion, and salary increases. Hire ahead of the work--things run too thinly here in terms of work per able body.

I have been working at Merkle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot of flexibility, fun events, smart people, and great chances to learn and grow.

    Cons

The turn-over rate is way too high, and most people live for more money.

I have been working at Merkle full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Merkle is a very challenging place to work, because it only wants people that are willing to work hard and are motivated by getting things done...and stretchy your capabilities to do so. People that survive the whiplash of getting through the door are typically the ones willing to do anything and everything...because they WANT to. People that don't, are those that are in it for the 9-5 and a paycheck. Work hard and you will be rewarded.

    Cons

At mid to senior management levels (short of exec level), people are not as well paid and are also not incented by a realistic bonus plan or profit sharing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get people that have worked at Merkle for 8-10+ years involved in some profit-sharing, stock plan, or something that could lead to a nice payday in the event that the company is sold or goes public. These are the people that have grown the company from 400 employees to 1700 employees and somewhere around 10x the revenue over that time period. Reward them for their hard work and LOYALTY.

Create an official plan around donation matching to charitable organizations. It seems you are willing to contribute, but only to select things. Why not just say you'll match 50% to any charitable donation made by an employee up to like $1000/year? That'd go a long way for those that are charitable.

I have been working at Merkle

    Pros

Building is nice, with an on-site gym; free drinks; location is nice, easy to access.. a lot of stuff to learn

    Cons

Work load is heavy; need to work overtime once a week on average; not much career path to go after a few years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much to say... just needs to be more clear about team structure, don't shift it too much too frequently.

    No opinion of CEO
