I have been working at Merrill Gardens full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

This company genuinely seems to care about the residents! So refreshing! The staff is dedicated from the top to the bottom. I can finally say that I have found a home with a company who has standards for care and service that match mine!

    Cons

Staffing tool for care staff seems to have an error in formulas but my GM is understanding about this when it is presented correctly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up doing what you are doing. As a new employee I cannot even begin to express my appreciation for the support I have received.

I worked at Merrill Gardens part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The residence made it all worth it. They made it very rewarding to meet and experience the seniors with all there history. Very fun and rewarding! The staff and residence for the most part were very amiable and accommodating.

    Cons

One of the drawbacks is residence leaving unexpectedly if you get my drift. They had a few discrepancies in regard to rules ,regulation and policies. They tried to run a very tight ship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more concern, leniency and fairness for employee's welfare in regards to policies.

I have been working at Merrill Gardens

    Pros

MG is a strong company, family run, and has a good reputation in the senior housing industry. They pay fairly compared to other companies and have excellent tools for training management staff in the communities.
Great compensation for marketing and community relations if you are hungry and willing to work.
Communities are run well and it is a privilege to be chosen to work for them.

    Cons

There is turnover, but the senior housing industry tends to be a bit incestual anyway. Recognition for accomplishments is not always recognized outside of occupancy percentages. Getting around the politics is a challenge sometimes and communication is not up to par between Corporate positions and the communities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more effort on implementing the MG cares program towards employees. Recognize accomplishments even when it might not be reflected in numbers. Eliminate sarcasm that retards good communication. Spend the time and energy to "mentor" current employees into leadership postions. Trust your leaders.
