    Intern

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsSmart people work here, and the offices are pretty nice. As an intern, this is a great place to get experiences in the financial industry if you are considering to make it a career.

ConsThe work-life balance is definitely a con. Even as an intern the hours are long, and the financial advisors expect you to be at their disposal pretty much 24/7.

    Hands-on Learning for Internship

    Intern (Current Employee)

ProsCoworkers are always looking to help out and assist me with anything. There is so much research that it is impossible to get bored. You are always learning at this job.

ConsThe business is highly regulated. There are always rules to follow that most employees are unaware of. The only place you can access your email is at the office unless you are an FA because it is considered working overtime.

    Great Experience and Opportunity

Marketing Intern (Current Employee) Brea, CA

ProsGreat environment to work in. Flexible, but very results oriented.

ConsHigh turnover/dropout for entry level. Extremely high-pressure first 3 years. 90% drop/fail. You don't know who will be dropped or quit next. Although, if you are working HARD - snapping necks and cashing checks- the opportunity is incredible.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive interns a run for their money, but also a rich experience. Cold calling should be apart of a greater and more fulfilling purpose.

Merrill Lynch is one of the best companies in the world.

PMD Financial Advisor (Former Employee) Austin, TX

ProsI think we have the best platform for financial advice and there are big strides being made now with new technology, including handheld devices to further engage clients.

ConsFor new people starting out in the business it can be challenging to bring in new business with little experience, management could do a better job linking newer advisers to more senior advisers.

Advice to Senior ManagementHelp people better understand the opportunity and give more than one suggestion to get in the business rather than just PMD. Give the people interviewing for PMD the statistics of PMD success and other way to grow in the business before entering the sink or swim PMD program. Perhaps letting a PMD applicant become a Client Associate for a few years might be a better way to help them transition on ML-or recommend going to work in a bank role for a few years would help them succeed long term.

great environment to work but pay is a mix of salary and other benefits

Investment Specialist I (Current Employee) Lincoln, RI

Prosgenerous associate benefit package including good insurance, generous time off, reimbursements for tuition and adoption, inclusive work environment.

Consstarting salaries are lower than other firms in the area.

Advice to Senior Managementless automated support for business functions and more direct interaction between departments.
