I have been working at Merrill Lynch as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Worked with a great team that was always willing to help when I had a question. Everyone was friendly and polite and very knowledgable about their areas. I genuinely learned a lot during my time here and I would highly recommend this internship to anyone else.

    Cons

Can sometimes feel like you go unnoticed at such a large company. Difficult to get your foot in the door.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Merrill Lynch is a great company to work for! Management is very proactive in providing the technology and tools needed for me to do my job. Merrill invests a substantial amount of capital in technology and infrastructure. Compensation and employee benefits are awesome. Quite a few employees have worked for ML from 5 to 15 years.

    Cons

Because the company is so big, management can sometimes be located in a different state than the employee. Before working for Merrill, I was used to making eye contact with my manager Monday thru Friday. Now, I send emails and leave voicemails for him.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on doing the same awesome job!

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will have almost every conceivable tool in your toolkit to help your clients. The firm doesn't micro-manage and you have control over your time

    Cons

They don't give you leads. YOU must go out into the world and find business. Don't be fooled into thinking people will walk in the door and you'll wind up with a large client list.

$250,000 min account size. They want affluent and wealthy clients. No easy pickings allowed

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The tenured people that were at the pre bank firm are more generous

    Cons

Politics are a huge problem. It is really who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Create better advancement programs.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Diverse set of technologies and challenges, massive market share and complexity, extremely challenging and always interesting.

    Cons

    Highly procedural, slow to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it simple -- don't add process to solve what are relational problems. Avoid region specific focus and think global.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Ability to work remotely is a positive.

    Cons

Company has not given out raises in the past 4 years. Bank of America is embroiled in so many legal /regulatory issues that they won't give out raises. Company looks for people who will just make the donuts. If you have any creativity or drive, you'll be VERY unhappy, however, if you're looking for just a 9-5 job and not a career then go for it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that you have increased the cost of medical benefits by 42% in the past 3 years and have not given raises to help offset the added costs. Your feeling that people should be happy they have a job is going to burn you in the end. Good people are going to leave because other companies will seek them out
