I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

They provide a lot of resources to get you licensed as well as support from a mentor, and other PMDs in the program. It is definitely a team environment.

    Cons

Once you are licensed, you are pretty much on your own. Unless you are able to team up with a senior advisor, or you have a lot of contacts with money it is extremely difficult to build a book. It is not impossible, but extremely difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would have been great to have more help in attracting clients in addition to the licensing preparation.

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is a great place to start a career. There is plenty of opportunity for growth and management will give you all the tools and outlets you need to strive

    Cons

Compared to other fraud positions with other companies, compensation could have definitely been a lot better. I know companies that are paying their employees almost double of what we make at Merrill, doing the same exact job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should look into what other companies are paying their Fraud Analyst, and compensate your employees fairly.

    I worked at Merrill Lynch

    Pros

I had a good boss who was very supportive and spent time mentoring me and teaching me. In general, it was a great start to my career in finance. Name opens door.

    Cons

Limited time spent actually doing financial analysis. Most time spent on setting up client meetings, paper work etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely something you want to move on from.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The financial advisor position is constantly evolving role. Never a dull day. Benefits are excellent and retirement benefits are best in class.

    Cons

Difficult to break in to the club. Only a small number of those entering the business will make it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Huge organization with endless opportunities

    Cons

Very political, but it is to be expected with a corporation this size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. Everything is about health and wellness but then we get stuck with disgusting cafateries and have the campus gym closed. Really bad...

I worked at Merrill Lynch as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Working with a massive firm with brilliant people
Working with a culture that puts clients first
Working at a place that allows you to network pretty much into anywhere in the fin services industry

    Cons

Culture clash with BofA; Merrill Lynch is client-first, BofA is profit-first
Compliance takes it a little overboard sometimes. I know they're just doing their job but it sometimes gets to the point of paranoia and it incurs extra costs in terms of time and consequently money

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forced synergies are not good synergies
