I have been working at MetroPCS part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

starting pay was 8/hour which was okay for a summer job at the time.
flexible schedule ...if you let them know a month in advance

    Cons

wasn't paid fairly though. my boss wouldn't look at clocked hours just what was on schedule. i would sometimes stay an hour after closing to help customers.
i was usually the only one at the store with no breaks.
my boss would pay the full-time employees "salary pay" and he wouldn't pay them overtime when they were working 60 hours a week. could have been my boss but it was so ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

since all stores are privately owned, you should really pay attention to the owners of the stores to make sure they follow protocol. owners like the one i worked for were sneaky and left a bad taste in the mouth of many.

I worked at MetroPCS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great salary, strong technology challenges

    Cons

Ruthless and unforgiving scheduling and paperwork for the people easiest to intimidate, the field technician and others on the bottom of the ladder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the hardest workers a chance to survive. Stop forcing the lie. Micromanagement does not engender trust.

I have been working at MetroPCS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits, and the job itself is really good.

    Cons

Promotions happen on a buddy system. Favoritism is obvious, and when management realizes mistakes, they brush them under the carpet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make interviews equal and standardized rather than tailoring them to fit one specific candidate you'd like to promote

I have been working at MetroPCS

    Pros

    -Free medical insurance
    -Free phone service plan
    -Flexible spending account
-You don’t need to have a BA degree to get a management position
-You don’t need to have experience to be a manager.

    Cons

-Macro-management (manager is checking your arrival time, lunch time)
-No reward for your hard work
-No respect for your lunch time (manager interrupt your lunch time with work related questions)
-You have to speak Spanish to get a promotion
    -Only management friends get promotions
They should eliminate the slogan “people first” from their web page. It should be “ friends first”

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take management classes! Respect your employees. Give a chance to other people to be promoted. Be fair with everybody!

I have been working at MetroPCS

    Pros

    Full timers receive great benefits.
If you were previously compensated decently it will carry over
    contests with good prizes
Kickoffs that give food and prizes.
the team is usually young and agressive.
as long as you do what your said and just do your job. It can be pretty steady.

    Cons

    Part timers get crappy benefits
    always understaffed
    commission is horrible
    politics
    no guidance whatsoever
    management has alot of power
As a working student this job benefitted me. I have been with metro for a very long time. If you have to work here.. if not there are other jobs that I would take over this one. I wouldn't say run for dear life but you work for a low cost provider, get paid low wages, and as a result deal with lowly people... And one more thing GET USED TO SLAMMING!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your employees sit down and hear what they have to say. Try and take care/reward employees.

I have been working at MetroPCS

    Pros

Pays the bills and work with some interesting people. Industry technology is very interesting as is the marketing and advertising practices.

    Cons

Very poor managment. No true appreciation for employee's. Very secular and compartmental with regards to information and team work. Low morale in most area's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to actually manage and communicate with employee's. Half-baked and poorly planned activities need to stop. Encourage team work.
