    Pros

I got to do a lot of craft demos. I always smelled like cinnamon which was kind of nice. The 25% discount on craft supplies was pretty cool.

    Cons

Literally the worst company to work for. Obsessed with controlling employees, even though most people are only employed part-time and do not really care about the job. Run away from this company!

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like they are actual human beings, not just tools that can be utilized so you have to do less work. Also, try to have internal events/fun things for employees, rather than just working them to death for minimum pay.

    Pros

Fellow coworkers make it a fun place to work. Get the chance to put your creativity to the test. Great discount now that it works on sale items too.

    Cons

Upper management (outside the individual store) needs to wake up and smell the coffee. District manager chooses the kiss ups to advance upward while they stomp and squish the hard working ones that are in the end the ones really doing all the work while getting no credit. When someone has been trying to move up for years to the next level doing anything and everything they can to reach that goal only to watch time and time again someone come in off the street and receive that position instead with no knowledge of the company its a huge morale killer. The pay is horrible and unfair. How is it right somebody that has been around 5 years longer then somebody of an equal position gets paid significantly less? Yearly raises are a joke. When the store managers are given a certain amount of money to divide among the associates is unspeakable. People should receive raises based on performance not based on a dollar amount within a certain amount. The CEO needs a wake up call and dig into what really goes on with his company you know out in the real world not from behind a fancy desk in an office. I think upper management needs to talk to associates/managers and find out what happens within stores but with the associates receiving no reprimanding, you know that whole joke of an open door policy thing. I could go on forever but I think I've gotten a lot out.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and smell the roses if you do you'll find they don't smell as sweet as you think. If you can read between the lines this little quote will make all the sense in the world!!!'

    Pros

Working around art supplies is a plus. Coworkers were wonderful to work with and around.

    Cons

Sexist against men, low pay, laborious, poor management, only smokers get hourly breaks

    Advice to Management

Don't work your good workers to the grave. Split up the work between employees. Pay employees what they are worth.

    Pros

It's a nice environment. Some of the people I worked with were nice. As an artsy person, I enjoyed a lot of the things they sell. When customers would give me a hard time, the manager would back me up, so I have to give them that.

    Cons

People were MEAN. Customers and a lot of the employees. I gave them my school schedule, and asked for those days off, but they kept scheduling me when I had class. Then they would make me find someone to cover my shift! Management was very poor. I never got to experience working in different parts of the store. They would just stick me on register and leave me there all day. Co-workers were very short with me. I really didn't enjoy this job at all.

    Advice to Management

Learn good people skills. Pay attention when someone gives you their schedule.

    Pros

Perhaps the only benefit of working for this company at the store level was that insurance was provided, even to part time employees -- until they took that away, too.

    Cons

Home and work life is not balanced. Be prepared to give your all to this company for nothing in return. Minimum wage is a joke and there is no hope for advancement. The management within the stores will hold you back from ever succeeding because they do not want to lose quality people. You may at some point be able to become a department manager, and maybe someday be considered for upper management -- but that is where your success ends. At that point you will work 6 days a week in the holidays and 60-70 hours at that. You may dream of climbing the corporate ladder but they would rather hire people fresh out of college with bachelor degrees than people who actually know and understand their business.

    Advice to Management

Stop looking outside for quality and look within. There are thousands of employees at the store level that could overhaul your corporate environment but you are so determined to keep them in their place you never consider the opportunity.

    Pros

    Great customers, creativity, co workers

    Cons

Always short handed, does not pay you for all of the time you work, very negative with employees, expect you to do 20 jobs with 2 people

    Advice to Management

To Corporate: go work in the store, under normal circumstances, at the cash register for a day or two, or on the floor and actually see and experience what you are asking of employees.

    Pros

You recieve a small store discount.

    Cons

Management doesn't know what they're doing. They're constantly trying to change things to improve them, but usually fruitless.
You don't get rewarded for hard work, everyone plays favorites. Basically high school drama all over again.
Pay isn't worth the work you have to do, or all the things you have to put up with.
Borderline dangerous workplace. Everything is held together with zip-ties.

    Advice to Management

Quit replacing store managers every year and find one who can do the job. Respect your employees, reward their hard work.

    Pros

The actual teaching was fun, the work itself was enjoyable. I liked my coworkers.

    Cons

-Not getting paid unless, on your own time, you hunted down the payroll person and waited for them to get a physical check.
    -Terrible lack of communication
-Never getting an employee ID/discount card, reason given being that they "ran out." (You don't know how many employees you have and didn't order the right amount?)
-NOT GETTING A W-2! This basically absorbed three stressful weeks of my life when I was trying to file taxes and couldn't get a thing from them. No response at all to various communication attempts.
-Not being paid the right amount. There was a week where I had twice as many students (so should have had twice as much pay) as usual but still was only paid $50. However, it was such a pain to get my paycheck at all that I wasn't up to whatever I'd have to go through to get paid the correct amount.
-they just put projects on the calendar. Sometimes they are really weird things like a "baby kimono." I'd no idea how to make a baby kimono, thankfully none of the students wanted to make one, but they don't check with you before just advertising and scheduling weird projects you're supposed to teach. they offer no materials to explain anything to you (like to show you how to make the weird things they advertise you'll be teaching).

    Advice to Management

Your Port Charlotte store is extremely disorganized.
I worked there for several months before quitting and never even got an employee ID, anyone's last name, and general communication was terrible. No one does bag checks or anything.

The discount for employees was finally made better than coupons that everyday customers already receive. It used to be 25% off regular priced items only (sometimes in the ad for a Sunday, customers receive 25% off sale and regular priced items). Now the discount is 30% off sale and regularly priced items.

Full time employees get health benefits and standard amount of vacation pay

    Cons

I started working in a store right before they had their "Store of the future change". Basically this change was just the company cutting a couple full time positions out of every store. Instead of having a few department managers they put one person in charge of the entire stores inventory- including stocking, inventory adjustments, setting planograms, unloading trucks etc. Yes there is a team working with this one manager, however they are paid minimum wage and hours not guaranteed. This leads to a lot of turn over, disgruntled employees, or straight up lazy people. The store managers won't fire these lazy people because corporate has a set number of employees that need to be on the team. Instead of just giving the ones that work hard plenty of hours, they have to share the weekly amount of hours with the lazy people that don't try and actually cause more work for others. These shifts start anywhere from 12am to 5am but they do not get paid any better than a sales associate that works normal hours.
I'll try to keep it brief about the truck. In this area trucks used to be on Wednesdays, which worked well since it came anywhere from 4am to 9am. After opening the store wasn't too busy on Wednesdays so the focus could be getting the truck done (Corporate gives you 5.5 hours to complete the truck from the second it arrives to getting all the overstock put away. This is only possible with small trucks, which in my store wasn't very often). Then they wanted to save money and changed the truck to Fridays. Fridays are really busy even at opening. This slowed the truck process down causing not all the stocking to get done. Forget even trying to stock over the weekend since not enough employees are ever scheduled. This merchandise that sits in the back then has no chance to sell over the weekend when customers come in looking for it. They then tried to fix this by starting 12am trucks. This failed because now employees sleep schedules are all over the place. Productivity went down and they had to end this after 3 months. If they just went back to trucks on a different weekday rather than the busy days they would save money. Maybe not with the trucks but in the long run with happier customers and employees.

Basically, this company only cares about money. Don't worry though, if they beat a company goal everybody gets a pin on their apron, not a pizza party or extra raise though. I think if they made a few changes then people could enjoy shopping here for their crafts, but as of right now it doesn't seem to be heading in this direction

    Advice to Management

Pay people better or at least give the helpful part time people more hours. You won't keep many good employees if you only guarantee a minimum of 3 hours a week. How can people depend on this company to help them pay their bills when one week they get 5 hours a week and the next 20?
Please work in a store for a week. You will see that you need more employees on the floor for the customer service you want/need. Also, its not fair to demand such a strict timeline on completing trucks when we also need to help the customers in the store/ ring up customers since there are no sales associates scheduled.
Maybe offer free classes to employees that want to learn how to use different products. Its not fun when customers assume you know how to do every craft just because you work here.
