    Pros

Pros: great if you're a crafty person or an artist for the discount.

    Cons

Cons: Low pay - not at all competitive with other retailers; poor incentives for participating in rewards programs. Store managers not at all willing to control supervisors who abuse power. My replenishment supervisor verbally abused the team on a daily basis, and the store manager did not do anything to reign her in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your associates. You'll get a better idea of what's wrong in the stores.

    Pros

Discounts are ok , some employees are nice. Some Customers are nice. Some managers are nice and willing to work with you.

    Cons

Managers play favoritism . Employees have worked there for a long time and no raises. Were all number to the store. Not enough hours for part time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate should allow more hours for part time employees and some sort of benefit package. Work with your employees and not have managers that discriminate their employees.

    Pros

Candidate process is steady . Many questions do not relate to position.

    Cons

ASking for SSN and Drivers License online (and unsecure...) Who is reading this? I stopped the process before completion of that step. I wll not provide that informaton.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reconsider asking for sensative information and references before an actual interview...

I worked at Michaels Stores part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere. The managers did well with structuring, and generally hired good fits to go with the rest of the team. I was hired on for holiday help, and was asked to stay as part time help, so that was quite nice.

    Cons

Not the best pay, and somewhat limited hours. This is true of pretty much all part time retail jobs though, so no surprise here.

It was fun, but they didn't give me enough hours

    I worked at Michaels Stores

    Pros

I liked the store itself. I enjoy crafts and it was fun being able to help people figure out what to do with craft projects. It was pretty fun most of the time. Overall, I would work there again, just under a different manager.

    Cons

I didn't feel like I was really part of the team. I felt like most of the other employees, especially the new manager, did not like me. My suspicions were confirmed when I repeatedly told them I could work more hours during the summer when I was out of school and they instead started cutting my hours down to about 4 hours per week. I suspect the manager is giving bad references as well since I have not been able to get a part-time job since leaving Michaels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have a problem with an employee, tell them before you start cutting their hours. I had no clue what I was doing wrong because I worked hard and thought I was a good employee. If you don't tell the employee what they're doing wrong, they don't have an opportunity to fix it.

    Pros

Atmosphere is fun and the job itself was pretty easy.

    Cons

They pay sucked and there were set hours for this position of just nights and weekends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the payrate for this position! I would have never left!

I worked at Michaels Stores full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Awesome associates, compensation, discount was good. The time off policy is good in writing, but not strictly adhered to.

    Cons

The company has grown considerably, as has the double standard of upper management. Before we (the company) can publicly declare that (I believe that we will win!!!") you should probably have a plan to determine exactly how "we will win"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personal growth is ok. If you want give up all you hold dear. There is no such thing as a work-life balance. The benefits get worse every year, every year for the past 5 I have had to prove that the same 4 kids are mine and legally insurable. There are surcharges ($500) for insured associates AND ($500) for their spouses if you do not complete an "optional" health screening annually. It will also cost you an extra $1000 a year if you are a smoker.

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very fun to work for, especially if you love to craft and create. Nice co-workers. Family Friendly.

    Cons

Not so great pay, Minimal Hours, Too many seasonal employees (not enough hours for the rest of us) Email Collection goal is unrealistic. Timing our transactions is unrealistic as well. Customers will always have questions that need more time. No benefits for Part-Time employees. You will not be full-time unless you are a manager. If you are a Class instructor you get the same pay as a sales associate (it should be more) Class/Event Supplies should not get thrown out, they should be given to charity. Kids club crafts should be more simple for ages 3-6, 6+ can be more complex, easier directions to do the crafts as well. Our classroom is always freezing cold so maybe easier access to heat. Outdoor displays should be kept inside on very cold/rainy days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training guideline. More experienced management. Easier to read coupon exceptions. Easier access to the heater. No outdoor display.

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great associates, discount, hours are ok

    Cons

Pay is at min wage, most sale items do not ring up on sale, some managers need up training and/or sensivity training, no steady hours- scheduled until 10 but usually leave early and don't get paid for it, extremely unrealistic goals to ask for emails- we ask but the customer doesnt give - hours reduced

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Uptrain mgmt, come up with another policy with emails, maybe have a loyalty program or send them a $5/off for shopping, etc
