    Good Starter Job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat people to work with. Better employee discount now. Good craft supplies available. Great store manager. pretty flexible with time-off requests sometimes.

ConsFew hours/pay rate. Little room for advancement/full-time hours. Lots of turn around. You are needed to wear many hats.

Advice to Senior ManagementBack up not over your store managers.
Appreciate your good employees that you have....not when they've left.

As a company, it was obvious that Michaels Stores made an effort to make their employees happy.

    Replenishment Associate (Former Employee)

ProsGreat job for a college student. I worked replenishment and management worked with my schedule on days that I had class right after work (let me go early; schedule changes). It's a good environment to be in if you like crafts in any way.

ConsIf you're looking for a career, this would not be the job to have. Everyone working there, except a handful, are part time. During the summer (slow) months it is possible to work only 8-12 hours a week and can be sent home regularly.

Last of vision, lack of execution

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Irving, TX

ProsEmployees care and try to do the right thing

ConsTurnover at the Exec level has cause confusion and fear in employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you are going to say you have open communication is has to be across the board, not just on the non-important items.

    Art Store Review

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIf you are an art student, this job could help with the discounts on supplies and materials. The team I worked with was very helpful.

ConsThe hiring manager was very unreasonable and ill-tempered. She's no longer there but she had favorites. At times we were understaffed so we had to cover more aisles. You have to remember practically every item within every item because you never know what people come in looking for.

ProsIf you're an artist or love working with crafts and cakes this is the place for you!!

ConsManagement expects too much from you for little pay and there's no room to grow

Advice to Senior ManagementEither help on the floor or at least come out of the air conditioned office once in a while

Not the worst, not the best.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSchedule is flexible, pay is fair but could be better. Benefits available. Co-workers, managers and costumers are typically friendly.

ConsTraining, scheduling, managers are often left out of the loop by high authority.

    Management Headache.

Part Time Replenishment Associate (Former Employee)
    Mesa, AZ

    Pros-Employees are all good people.
    -You get to help people.
    -Employee discount.

ConsManagement and assistant manager's were caught dating and fired for it, The GM's replacement was rude, barely spoke English, ended up getting into an argument with an employee that turned into a screaming match between her and my immediate manager who was forced to leave our store over it. The store went through 4 management members in the year I worked there, and I've heard they've lost another GM since.

-High employee turnover rate. (Management and floor.)
-Normal retail gripes (Impatient customers and the like.)
    -Very few hours.
    -Rampant favoritism.

Advice to Senior ManagementConcrete in some good natured managers who will help keep morale up. It's hard to keep up the pace if you can't keep up your head.

    Very demanding high-volume manufacturing environment

    Quality (Former Employee)
    City of Industry, CA

ProsMost workers are long time employees and are generally very friendly and helpful

ConsArtistree is the custom picture framing division of Michael's Stores Inc. or "Michael's Arts and Crafts".

Daily production goals are unrealistic and leave NO room for error, which breeds paranoia in the factory full of mostly unskilled labor workers. When individual production numbers are not met consistently, workers have been written up and then fired. Recruitment has been difficult because few people can meet the standard, and those that do, can't handle the fast paced, demanding enviorment long-term.

Promotion opportunities are available within the factory
    Average compensation for unskilled work
Company does offer paid time-off, and partial medical, dental, vision

Advice to Senior ManagementPer person production goals should be lowered.
