    No opinion of CEO

I worked at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Lots of Customers; Solving real Big-Data Problems. Great space to be in. 2. Good Cash Flow. 3. CEO/CTO has rightly recognized that the big data space is undergoing Transition and they need to Pivot. Doing the same old thing again and again will lead to 2 things - decline in market share, products that nobody likes. MSTR is currently pivoting towards a leaner organization, focused products But that also means that it has to go through some turmoil\employee attrition. Its a common phenomena that many organization go through - Ex Infosys (Under Sikka), even Google is pivoting to be more than a search engine. Pivoting is necessary and you don't want to be late & end up being like Blackberry.

    Cons

    1. Investing in projects like Usher, Emma, et al are not necessarily a bad thing and can help with the Pivoting but they should operate as independent business Units, accountable for P&L,. This will avoid the bottom line question of "why we are doing this project" from Employees who are emotionally invested in the project. 2. Employee morale is down right now and the result is all these negative reviews on Glassdoor. But, these negative reviews are short sighted and things will be OK if we build great products.

    Advice to Management

    1. Build good products that will capture the imagination of people. There are a tons of Big Data problems that still need to be solved and MSTR can do it. 2. The new CTO has good ideas, needs some time for execution. Tableau didn't magically happen one day - it was all about identifying a "new market" and delivering it at the right time to the right audience.

    Pros

Amazing product with great reviews on latest release, MSTR 10! Great people to work with, very talented and super smart. Impressive building in Tysons with free gym.

    Cons

It's been a tough year and there is no hiding that. We have room to improve in several areas and believe we are on the right track to get there. It will take a lot of work and patience.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and respect your employee base

    Pros

Great amenities, good location, work life balance is alright.

    Cons

Upper management seems unstable, roles and responsibilities are vague, no clear career direction at any position.

    Advice to Management

Clean up career tracks for your employees, the cuts to the benefits are weighting hard on the remaining employees.

    Pros

Overall the building is nice, nice gym, nice perks such as office events at HQ like ice cream socials and costumer contests. Good technical boot camp training for employees.

    Cons

A lot of good people are gone, high turnover. Very top heavy organization. No clear direction right now, people are frustrated and scared. No clear career progression.

    Advice to Management

Be clear with your vision for the company, let the employees know, execute it and stay the course! So much time and money has been wasted with changing ideas for the future of the company.

    Pros

Gym Leftovers from the executive (CXO) lunches shared with the employees after a few hours The company is a going concern (for now)

    Cons

Yearly salary bumps were in the low-single digits, barely keeping up with inflation in Tyson's Corner Bonuses have been slashed The new CTO does not understand what it takes to build a desirable product...instead of focusing on product and strategy, the CTO micromanages the team, by forcing and reviewing timesheets (if you go to the bathroom for #2, you might have to fill that out soon too)

    Advice to Management

Micromanagement won't help increase license revenue, build great products, or provide a satisfying work environment.

    Pros

Good bi product , lots of experience, teams, size, CEO is still visionary

    Cons

Upper Management, shifts in strategies, too focused on stock price performance (gimmicks in sales), too much legacy code (product needs big haul for next generation analytics)

    Advice to Management

CEO is still a visionary but need less seismic shifts or better planned, should have kept talent from leaving at the mid and lower level cause that would have been mutual investment.

    Pros

Great enterprise product! At least 12 months ago and when finally the overdue next release comes out it should help catch up to other BI vendors who have stormed ahead improving their Analytics while MSTR derailed into a new Security focused path last year

    Cons

Not much to add to other posts - way too many excellent experienced people in all areas forced out or fed up and left. Since CEO took an interest in day-to-day activities there are one after the other CEO/Exec operations decisions that put up roadblocks for hard working teams to achieve success. Add to that a new 2015 Comp plan that helps the CEO find every nuance possible to NOT PAY the sales force....

    Advice to Management

Do whatever it takes to stop the bleeding of talent and get the company and Analytics product back on track. Security is a cool offering with lost of potential - just don't push it at the expense of the BI platform

Culture is self-managing similar to what Zappos is trying to do although it hasn't been explicitly articulated.

    Pros

Continuous Learning. Exciting new v10 product. Smart colleagues. Some cool engagements.

    Cons

A disconnect with almost everybody. High turnover. Strategy is still unclear whether it's an Accenture model or McKinsey model.

    Advice to Management

Recent turnovers are putting a damper morale
