    Great place to work

    Lead Recruiter (Former Employee)
    Vienna, VA

ProsCutting edge software. Mature but still entrepreneurial company after 25 years of business. Great team to work with and very intelligent staff and management team. The staff is very solutions oriented and very aggressive in getting software to market. The company is big on hiring bright young talent and is big on giving opportunities for employees to be promoted from within. Also, the company has a strong employee referral program

ConsCompany has a tendency to over hire staff and then do big layoffs

Advice to Senior ManagementBe disciplined with your hiring

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat products and it's great working with so many smart people. Salaries are good but could be improved. Love the gym and lounge.

ConsInvest more in the people with training /education reimbursement, stock ownership programs, etc. Increase salaries to stay competitive. Overall is good though.

Great technology that has been a leader in the BI industry for a long time.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMicroStrategy is similar to a well-funded start up. Innovative and nimble yet always investing in new technologies to stay on top. Always spends a lot of budget on R&D. Great tenure in a lot of departments within the company which is refreshing. Events at corporate to promote fun and team building environment.

ConsSimilar to the mentality of a start up will change direction at certain points in time and can be frustrating to employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick to what you're good at and stay the course.

Great company to work - if you know what you want out of it

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMicroStrategy's a nice place to work - know what you're looking for though. Good to have the CEO/founder retain the charge and vision of the company. The BI platform is solid and second to none. The pipeline of new products shows a company trying hard to innovate - which is good.

ConsComp needs to align better with marketplace. Lack of ESPP or options puts employees at a disadvantage compared to other companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on people and customers - everything else is noise.

    Brilliant minds, Incredible talent.

    Human Resources Manager (Former Employee)
    McLean, VA

ProsIncredibly smart people, casual work environment, world class gym onsite. They only hire the best in Engineering and IT. Looks great on a resume if you ever leave.

ConsToo much focus on success of IT and Consulting, rest of company feels second tier at times and has to beg for staff. Employees get burnt out in poorly staffed departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementPump up IS staff. Technology gets all the attention and other departments have to beg for more headcount and their employees get worked to the bone, thus leading to turnover. More town hall ("state of the company") meetings to share information to all employees. At times, it feels as if the C-level execs are not in touch with the rest of the company. Focused too much on bottom line (which should come first), and forgetting about culture. This company was once famous as a "great place to work", but not feels too "corporate" and employees just a number. Sometimes, it feels as if the company and HR is just "reactive" versus being "proactive" and working with staff to make this an awesome place to work again.
