I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It's OK, very intelligent people overall but upper management never shows up, who knows what they are doing. Work life balance is great.

    Cons

Very little communication from upper management, I guess I can get more money somewhere else but not all in life is money I have good friends here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people, the market is every day hitting on software people offering new opportunities.

    Cons

Company has risky projects which differ from their main offering and lead to job insecurity
No clear recognition for good work
No clear path of career development

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Interact more with employees and make sure that all low level employees are aware of what we are trying to acomplish with the new releases/features/offering and WHY

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time

    Pros

Love the working environment and the smart people as a team. The product is getting better and better. You can see what you are doing is making a difference.

    Cons

Lack of clear leadership. Re organization is constant and that's annoying. Not stable and sometimes products could be postponed as in release time.

I worked at MicroStrategy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

great benefits, except no tuition re-imbursement - good vacation time off after years build up.
great people, offers in-building access at hq to a nice gym and a pool table and big-screen tv-break room
    Metro?
right next to Tysons Mall, lots of good lunch food options to hang with friends
    paid garage parking

    Cons

garage is often full after mid-morning, hard to find a spot1
Mall is really hard to commute in and out of during 2 months of Christmas
Not all managers are really people persons, or have ANY real training
some requests are beyond achievable and require significant unpaid over-time to work on yet still not reachable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

train managers to manage people more, not just be technically focused; find a way to mandate time for technology training investment during work hours towards work goals; don't forget to maintain the desired corporate culture

I worked at MicroStrategy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

MicroStrategy hires some really, really smart people. There is a huge potential for learning if you're the kind of person to seek it- you really have to want to learn stuff and ask a bunch of questions but the knowledge base is there and is, for the most part, friendly and willing to educate. Of course, I'm sure that's based on what department you wind up in as some positions are pretty isolating and you end up working on your own.

    Cons

MSTR is fantastic at seeing the 3-5 year picture but has a really hard time sticking to a plan for the current and the next quarter. I really feel that MSTR would be fantastic if they went back to being a private company, but they butt heads with what investors want quite frequently because they have amazing vision but aren't the type to sit around and wait for it to be executed while making small, calculated steps that minimize risk to investors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on the fragmentation at the executive level- in my time at MSTR I have seen the execs become more and more divisive on corporate strategy and the push and pull of their day to day decisions and politics really dampen the morale of workers as well as prevent MSTR from being as cohesive and awesome as it could be.

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time

    Pros

It is the top company for BI area. The pay and benefits is good. Has lot of creative ideas not only in traditional BI area, but also in Mobile, Customer Loyalty, and Identity.

    Cons

It is not stable because the company has spent a lot of energy on new and unpredictable area like Mobile, Loyalty, and Identity. If the new technology cannot meet the market's need. It will layoff a lot of people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more benefit to the employee. Be more patient to the new project.
