    Pros

Company is doing well recently. Profit sharing is good. 401K matching is good. Career opportunities are available for those willing to grab them.

    Cons

The business sector that Micron is in is rather limiting. If you are a new grad, I would advise you to stay away. Memory is a commodity product. It's like apples, oranges or jelly beans. If you craves something more cutting edge and exciting, go into a different high tech sector.

    Advice to Management

Management is doing good, but not excellent compared to others in the same sector. Everyone, management and employees alike need to up their game.

    Pros

Great paid time off system, benefits are strong, and it is hard to beat the starting salaries in Boise, ID. Enjoy working on complex problems and see recommendations get a serious consideration.

    Cons

Promotion path is not consistent between organizations within the company. In one area you can be told by management that you will not get a promotion to a certain level because of your degree. However, move to another department and the game totally changes and you can get promoted. This is two different areas in the same company! The yearly survey is also a joke. When you see a specific area review their experiences as poor year after year and having the lowest satisfaction scores compared to all other areas, management needs to take a step back and try to change that path. However, management seems to not take the data to heart and attribute the low scores the a few "grumpy"members.

    Advice to Management

Need to make the promotional process the same for all departments within the company. You can't have certain areas putting road block for promotion while other areas providing fast passes. Management needs to take the annual surveys more seriously our don't waste our time and company resources to conduct the survey.

    Pros

If you do your job they will take care of you in general. You still might be subject to a layoff. If you are one of the top performers (excel in your job, have the right education), of course you have a better chance of getting laid off.

    Cons

Can get some managers that are a little off. Just do your best and look for opportunities.

    Pros

Micron is not afraid to spend money on the latest technology to compete in the global marketplace. The amount of vacation time is pretty good especially if your area works holidays you can get 4 weeks off your first year. Pay is good for the Boise area. Overall we are treated very well.

    Cons

Micron is in the process of changing it's CEO from Mark Durcan to Mark Adams. Mark Adams brilliant idea is to simply work everybody much harder. Management is now extremely concerned with numbers and not as concerned with quality as they used to be. Also Micron seems to have a lot of management who don't really do that much except go to meetings but not usually with the people they actually manage. You will defiantly experience layoffs if you stay at Micron more than a few years. I have seen four rounds of layoffs in my time there. Also one of the rounds was totally unnecessary. Micron was making money hand over fist yet still did a 5% layoff. Goals for promotion are extremely verge but promotions do happen especially to very top performers.

    Advice to Management

Don't be closed to suggestions. I have watched many employees with good ideas quickly shot down. Middle management is extremely resisted to change. Upper management seem much more open to change. Also don't push so hard for numbers. Quality is suffering and employee dissatisfaction is growing.
