I have been working at Microsemi

    Pros

    Reasonable pay in semiconductor industry.
Opportunities to be involved in various aspects of a project and to interact with different groups at different locations.

    Cons

It's a big company but made of many different divisions acquired over the time. Even one division could be spread across multiple sites. There are politics among those groups at different sites. Feel the product development cycle is too long.

    Advice to Management

Focus on looking for differentiators in products. Reduce bureaucracy. Improve executions.

    Pros

Opened the door to my career field. Great opportunities.

    Cons

No organic growth just through mergers and acquisitions. No planning of typical yearly occasions(bonus, stock, etc.). Executive gets payouts no matter how the company is doing. Looks two-faced when they tell the company that they did not meet their numbers yet still receive six-figured bonuses. No room for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Try and bridge the gap between the executives and the rest of the company. It is okay to say hello to employees as they walk down the hallways.

    Pros

Lots of variety of work for a marketing manager - varied application spaces and technologies. Products are really interesting, and a shift towards "systems" and "solutions" marketing is changing the marketshare landscape.

    Cons

You really need to know how to ride what can be a turbulent situation. I recommend more for experienced professionals.
Very wide telecommute range (LA, Sacramento and Texas) means hallway conversations to not happen.
Middle management severely overworked (amount of email traffic is one example)

    Advice to Management

    Share big picture goals
    Give more direction.

    Pros

Diversify, learn new thing, flexible hours, good compensation. friendly working environment, knowledgeable workforce.

    Cons

fast pace, reactive than proactive. Working long hours, unreasonable expectation. Pay attention to quantity more than quality. Who you know, not how good you know.

    Advice to Management

    Think long term. Better planning.
