    Pros

Possibly the most structured internship on the planet. Summer camp for college students

    Cons

ummmm.. It really depends on who you are - I just felt kind of lost in the company. However, it really is a great company - they treat their employees really well

I have been working at Microsoft

    Pros

    - Great technologies (you know that you are working on products that affects the life of millions of people)
    - Good benefits package
    - Opportunities for career growt and advancement
    - Great colleagues to work with, very intelligent and talented

    Cons

The managers don't care for what the employees have to say about what's wrong...In the long term, this will destroy the company. Actually, sometimes they even complain with you if you talk to them about what you think is wrong in the company...
    There isn't a very good Work/Life balance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take your time to hear what the employees have to say...

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You get spoiled beyond belief. Great pay, great events, and company gifts that all try to get you to sign on full-time. The people are friendly and always willing to help.

    Cons

The company is so large that every logistical process takes forever; miscommunication is frequent and everyone's job is so specialized that you don't know what's going on on the other side of things. Typical big company disadvantages that are uncommon for most tech companies.

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing food, accommodation, culture, people !! The people here are amazing. You find a lot of young minds. They provide a lot of outings for the MACs and they even take you to the US!

    Cons

Work may be a monotonous. The pay is not really great. They could provide more pay. Also, the projects vary from one place to another. So you need to be a little lucky to get good projects!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing really. They are doing great. Maybe increase the salary for the people in IT

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The people are very friendly. Good work-life balance. Manager is transparent in what she is thinking. Microsoft is moving towards better business model.

    Cons

Big company problems; bureaucracy, slow, inefficient, lack of clear communication between groups. Too many layers between development and release (dev, QA, business, etc).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove barriers. Move faster. Break things. Fix Things.

Current Intern - Research Intern in Bellevue, WA

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - While many people thought Microsoft environment is not very friendly for new employee, I found it very friendly and full of new opportunities to explore.
    - They took very good care of Interns by providing subsidizing housing and car rental, plus many exciting events.
    - I was working with the Bing section, and there are many unexplored areas in Bing which can be a great opportunity to make significant contributions.

    Cons

    - In comparison with companies such as Google, there are way less PhDs in the staff which sometimes make it harder to introduce radical research ideas.
    - The company went to a massive lay-off when I was there. Although that obviously don't affect interns, if you are considering Microsoft for a full-time position, there are risks that one of these lay-off waves hit you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Have better collaboration with researchers in MSR. Microsoft is lucky to have such brilliant scholars as part of MSR and if their creativity can be managed well, they can make huge contributions to the company.
    - Start more active programs of Fellowships for grad students, same as Google and Facebook, to enhance the picture of company and attract better talents.
