I have been working at Milgard Manufacturing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Milgard philosophy is about respect, customer service and pursuing excellence. Most people can embrace these principles, but those who can't should seek other employment. Pay and benefits are top tier, especially the employee discounts on Milgard and Masco products. Strong commitment to continuous improvement. Senior management is effectively balances employee, customer and business needs.

    Cons

Business tracks with the economy so subject to downturns. Could improve training for supervisors. Preference to promoting from within, which limits the influx of new ideas and methods.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More senior management visibility. Broader employee recognition.

I have been working at Milgard Manufacturing

    Pros

The #1 reason I stay is because of all the people I work with, they are great. For the most part, I like what I do...

    Cons

    The only downside is the raises. {No merit raises or cost of living raises}

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fight harder with Masco to get us our raises. {at least a cost of living raise every year} They raise the price of the windows to pay for the fuel to deliver the windows, so that gives us less business and cuts our hours but we still have to pay the higher fuel costs to get to work. That was just an example for the need for us employees to get the cost of living raise.

    I worked at Milgard Manufacturing

    Pros

Commitment to personal development and opportunities for advancement. There is a lot of focus on teams. People generally work well together and there is a lot of support across job functions. The attitude is do whatever it takes to get the job done. There is a great philosophy of accountability and continuous improvement.

    Cons

There are a lot of long hours because the company runs lean and this can make it difficult to find a good work/life balance. Oftentimes politics get in the way of getting the job done in the best manner. With the struggling economy and suffering housing industry the company has been in a cycle of layoffs and plant closures which contributes to a lack of job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember what made the company successful - its people. Try not to focus too much on the short term.

I have been working at Milgard Manufacturing

    Pros

Very structured organization. Policies and procedures are detailed and expectations are clear. Good customer service is clearly important throughout the organization.

    Cons

MPS is so comprehensive and time consuming that it takes away from necessary time spent on critical job functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less focus on MPS will reap greater rewards in the future.
