  1. Confusing place to work, craft beer is on the rise and miller is slowly sinking.

    I worked at MillerCoors

    Pros

Cheap beer, provided uniforms, friendly co workers decent pay. Fun free tour, good history, onsite health center and fitness facility.

    Cons

I was hired here as an overtime relief employee back in 2010, I stayed here for three years and was never able to actually get hired full time (even though they always promised it) I was hard working and never missed any work, if three years isn't enough to prove yourself to an employer nothing is. Employees always are on different jobs, lots of errors and lots of confusion make the workers resent each other, this company wastes more beer then they actually ship out it seems like. Equipment is always breaking down since it is from like the 1950's. Little to no training ever happens and they have like 4 people running entire lines.

    Advice to Management

Want to be more cost effective? How about assigning a person one job so they know the ins and outs of that one job and you won't have as much waste. Craft beer is slowly killing off this old school brand and their watered down "beers",the younger generations are going to know this company as a thing of the past if you guys don't get more creative and soon. Retro labeling can only go so far. So please start making a beer like the Germans or local craft brewery's do.

    Pros

Free beer. Company education program is pretty good. Good benefits. Lots of opportunity to move laterally, as long as you're willing to move. You could make a career here, as long as you do what you're told and don't complain.

    Cons

Poisonous culture, especially in Marketing. Organization does not treat people like individuals, but instead as cogs in a system (unless you happen to be one of the few who are given special treatment for no apparent reason). Decision making is often pushed upward to the people least informed and able to make good decisions. Confusing organizational systems, and middle/upper managers who are only in it for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Time to flush out the political animals and get people into middle/upper management positions who are actually good managers and leaders.
Clarify your vision for the company. Winning in Beer 2.1 isn't a vision, it's just a set of objectives.
Fix the culture. It starts with you.

    Cons

changing hours for no reason at all, big company they forget about the people who work on the floor...

    Advice to Management

Listen to the little people, share the wealth, it takes all of us to make this work, not just the big wigs...

    Pros

    Free Beer
    Decent benefits
Brewery is clean and updated facilities

    Cons

Brewery leadership are condescending, untrusting, ungrateful, egotistical maniacs that drive a toxic culture of fear. People in middle mgmt. are fired or demoted on a weekly basis and they bring in a new crop of poor suckers to replace them. This has happened for years at the Eden Brewery. Had to leave for fear of being blamed for something I didn't do. Not willing to be a scapegoat for mgmt.

    Advice to Management

Start over at the breweries and build a culture of human decency and people-focused. You might get the results you want out of folks when they are not scared for their lives.

    Pros

The salaries and benefits are great and if you want to get a known employer name on your resume consider a start here but don't stay too long.

    Cons

Used to be a fun place to work. Wrong job for most management personnel-lack of people skills; too technical oriented. Taking perks away but expect more (hours; work loads) from employees.

    Advice to Management

Show more gratitude for long time employees and their knowledge base; practice what you preach; stop the check in the box behaviors.

    Pros

Fun category, people are able to relax and have fun over a beer after work, HQ work hours are usually pretty manageable

    Cons

Lack of strong leadership and direction, too many people considered decision makers along the way slow things down

    Advice to Management

Leadership can't always be a democracy. There needs to be vision and strategy driving decisions rather than short term fixes

    Pros

Great history and brand equities. Benefits are nice, salary is marginally competitive.

    Cons

Competing cultures from the two companies was too much to manage. Amazing to see the "bull in a china shop" management styles often be rewarded with a promotion. So many talented and respected employees either left or forced out.

    Pros

Great industry to be part of, opportunity to work anywhere in the country. Average pay scale for position with many entry level and 3+ years experience roles.

    Cons

Management is overly focused on finance and metrics. Very little opportunity to advance and a culture that lacks any true teamwork. Expectation that work is your life.

    Advice to Management

A positive culture that values individuals and builds teams will ultimately drive positive results. Fix the culture to fix the business.

    Pros

    Beer allowance
    Big marketing budgets
    Some great people
    Bar in HQ
    Travel a lot

    Cons

Leadership is lacking - particularly at the top levels
Category is contracting - lack of meaningful plans to change trajectory
Company is terrified of distributor network, advertising and programming gets watered down as a result
Old, white men making all decisions
Too focused on ABI - meanwhile spirits and wine are kicking our butts

    Advice to Management

Focus on consumer rather than distributor network and business may change
Consider how ratings of employees impact morale

    Pros

Lots of motivated, exciting, smart talent. Huge increase in talent since moving to Chicago office. Been with company 5+ years. Some amazing brands to work on with really interesting challenges to dig into and explore. Fun culture most of the time.

    Cons

Very political. Sales run organization. Lot of good, strategic thinking can be ignored if a vocal sales person in the field has a different opinion. A decision is never actually made at this company. Changing and flip flopping decisions at every level is an every day commonplace and results in enormous churn and burn across the people actually doing the work. This has been a core part of the culture since I started and affects all departments - Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Marketing Services.

    Advice to Management

SLT and MLT have got to realize what it's actually like to be a Director and down at MillerCoors. The amount of work and logical thinking thrown out the window based on the whim of a field person calling a VP or above has a devastating affect on moral and is the main reason we lose so much top talent.
