I worked at Mine Safety Appliances full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Clean, safe, helpful supervisors. Pleasant atmosphere for a call center. HR is nice and offers plenty of incentives and benefits for an entry employee. They hire vets.

    Cons

Always evolving, they have a very wide range of products and services that take some time to get used to, the department or division you're interested in may be sold off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone was a decent and friendly person.

Former Employee - Manager in Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Mine Safety Appliances full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees take pride in the products and services they create. There is a feeling of doing something important. Compensation and benefits are good.

    Cons

Sometimes difficult to get ideas 'up' the management chain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a process to evaluate ideas from employees. Hearing that your idea does not have enough merit is better than thinking that no one is listening.

Former Employee - Head of (Country) Marketing

I worked at Mine Safety Appliances full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The boss would always understand perfectly what was needed and how to motivate the team. He would never be satisfied with less than our best, and would always be very helpful and supportive, making sure we had the tools we required.

    Cons

I would not recommend this company to people looking to go by without much effort. Good things (and jobs) always require time and effort.

I have been working at Mine Safety Appliances

    Pros

-Flexible when it comes to work-life balance issues
    -Supportive, team-oriented environment
-Almost all employees are pleasant to work with
    -Interesting and important products
    -Received constructive feedback from manager
-Upper-level management makes an effort to know their employees
-Most employees seem to stick around for a long time (10+ years)

    Cons

-There is very little turnover in the workforce, which is a good thing, but it also means that there are fewer job openings in upper positions. As an entry-level employee, my impression is that it would be a long time before something opens up that I could move into.
