Fast-paced career but can be rewarding.

Sales Engineer (Former Employee) Beltsville, MD

ProsSalary and bonuses are rewarding. Good benefits. Emphasis on product training recently with opportunity to meet colleagues rather than only talk to over the phone.

ConsThere are long hours and little work structure. Recent changes in management I feel are highly contributing to structure concern. Fast-paced, many products to learn plus technologies such as MCSE, VCP, and CCNA/P.

Advice to Senior ManagementRebuild a structure for employee work/life balance and growth.

Mitel Networks is not Inter-Tel anymore

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Tempe, AZ

ProsThe director of my department was a very effective manager with great communication skills who always made time to listen to the suggestions and concerns of his employees.

ConsWhen the two companies merged my department was phased out over a period of about one year and eventually my position was too.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you discount over thirty years experience of a successful business model while integrating two companies the result will be less than it could have been.

    Its like a big family

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Ana, CA

ProsAlways on the cutting edge. Excellent Mobility applications that we actually use! Let's workers work from anywhere and still get the job done. Products, services and a Company we can be proud of. All the divisions of Mitel as well (DataNet, NetSolutions etc...) allow us to be a one-stop shop for our customers and that makes offering a solution you KNOW will work effortless!

ConsIt was tough merging with another culture over the last few years; but we've come through and I think we combined the strengths of both companies! Sometimes there is a lack of communication about product roadmap and Surprise!! we have a new offering announced to everyone before those of us IN the company even know what it is!

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your field-based employees more opportunity to provide input into product direction and development. We are on the ground with our customers as their needs change and we see technologies develop (IPhone!!) before the guys in the back room do!

Good place to work that offers flexibility and interesting projects.

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Chandler, AZ

ProsLaid-back environment with lots of flexibility towards your work schedule. Decent benefits package provided. Engineers are involved with all phases of the software development process. Wide variety of interesting and challenging features project to project, so it's easy to stay engaged and avoid getting bored. Get to work with many talented and knowledgeable engineers and learn a lot in the process. All levels of engineering and management have a very open-door policy.

ConsLots of overhead in software process even though Mitel is not dictated by government regulations. Could afford to be a little more aggressive (maybe a little too laid-back in some areas). Not much feedback from management aside from performance reviews.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstitute means of increasing retention of engineers.

great colleagues and fun rapidly evolving technology

    (Current Employee) Ottawa, ON (Canada)

Pros- Great people to work with and very little politics; you can trust your colleagues have the best intentions at heart and you don't need to watch your back.
    - The technology is rapidly evolving requiring much innovation and thus keeping things exciting
    - Has an on site fitness centre at the Ottawa location
    - Rich McBee has made significant changes in the past year which look positive. Hopefully Fiscal 1Q2013 is a minor blip given last year's great success.

Cons- It is in a competitive market and this layoffs occur from time to time with up to 10% attrition; This is not a place for weak professionals however strong professionals need not worry.
    - Location is in Kanata making it awkward to get to by public transit

    Good experience. Good people.

Account Manager (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsVery smart people. High level of intellectual capital. Creative thought leadership.

ConsToo technology focused; not enough busness focus.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease investment in marketing. The technology is very good, but the communication of its value is lacking.

Mitel may be a place to work if you are happy to work in older technology

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Ottawa, ON (Canada)

    ProsGood senior management
Many talented engineers in the software design teams.
Compensation is competitive with other tech firms in Ottawa.

ConsOlder technology and reluctant from the upper management to introduce new ones.
Team hierarchy provides very little space for personal career growth.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management should review the way teams are organized and provide personal growth opportunities for all employees. Teams should be organized in a hierarchical order so that there is team leads, primes etc.
