Nice people, challenging yet somewhat boring work...

Summer Intern (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGood pay (at least for an intern), a lot of diversity in the workplace, your opinion is valued no matter what your position. Reputable company on a resume.

ConsI've heard it's hard to move up in the organization, work can be mundane because of the subject matter

Advice to Senior ManagementGive the interns more long term projects or presentations rather than short, quick assignments

    Overall a good experience

Intern (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsMoody's is a very nurturing environment. The ratings agency treats its interns well and heavily encourages them to network and learn about the other sides of the firm.

ConsMoody's is a flat organization, and I've heard that advancement occurs very slowly. The internship structure, however, is not very standardized. The internship experience across different groups can highly vary.

good opportunity to produce research that influences markets/investors; poor management

AVP-Analyst (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGood work-life balance, opportunities to conduct credit research insulated from short-term market volatility

ConsVery poor, non-responsive middle management that is primarily focused on compliance and regulatory issues, to the detriment of independent and market-moving research and analysis. Few opportunities for promotion based on merit. Everything is driven by seniority, which saps motivation and leads to many analysts just coasting.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement does very poor job of communicating with staff, leading to an environment of fear and paralysis. Staff are rewarded for sticking to the status quo and innovative thinking and analysis are discouraged. This has and will continue to lead to group-think and ultimately poor rating decisions.

Associate Analyst III (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat entry level job for finance grads coming out of a non core school
Not much redundant work. Analysts want you to be heavily involved in the credit rating process

    ConsTechnology is slow but improving
    Career advances take long

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within more often. Too much turnover at associate positions
