Fantastic learning experience in how persistence and patience pays off.

Wealth Management (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as an intern for less than a year

ProsGreat connections that will help you out if you put your heart and soul into what you do. People pick up quickly on how hard of a worker you are and will reward you for it.

ConsLarge and relatively rigid corporate structure with conventional-type offices. Very quiet working conditions where everyone is expected to be doing nothing but their work 100% of the time.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would try to have more positive perks instead of parties. Instead of softball parties where not everyone is included, try a gym membership included in benefits or healthy cooking classes.

Great people, but stagnant environment

Wealth Management (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as an intern for less than a year

ProsThe people were really friendly and nice, and the work environment was overall very friendly and light. It's a small branch on 52nd street so it is easy to meet people and make a lot of connections.

ConsNowhere to really grow if you want to seek other opportunities within the branch. You can only go so far in Wealth Management. If you are unsure about the business, you should try exploring other opportunities.

Overall good experience

Financial Reporting (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney full-time for more than 3 years

ProsJob location is ideal, Management in my department is generally accommodating to schedule changes, work load is manageable, ability to wear multiple hats

ConsCareer movement can be cumbersome, additional work/responsibility does not necessarily equate to additional pay

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be to provide a consistent message in communication to employees. Sometimes there mixed messages as well as inconsistencies that make employees feel an uncertainty in the direction the company is taking.
