Pros- There are some very technically-oriented and nimble teams.
- If you do good work you will be generously rewarded.
- Senior management is getting a much sought after refresh with people with a good vision and execution strategy.

Cons- A lot of old 'Motorola' culture still lingering.
- Unless you know who to work for, getting into the team that isn't 'old Motorola' may be challenging.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue striving being nimble, being the best, making the best products and working with the best people. You're in the right direction.

ProsMotorola Solutions has long and proud history of innovation in the public safety related communications products. The company has a great work culture. People have great respect for each other.

ConsCompany needs to accelerate innovation and promote more creativity from within. Complacency among some of its groups will be detrimental for the company. It needs to be much ahead of its competitors to retains its market share.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to create new programs that encourages and promotes innovation in both business models as well as in grassroots technology.

Proschallenging work environment. Quality employees and a lot for opportunities for growth. Would recommend a career in Motorola to friends.

ConsLarge Company. It is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Travel required for the job. Not always to desirable locations.

Advice to Senior ManagementPush the wireless set division. Need other outlets other than the radio side. Also a better selection in the cafeteria would be nice.

ProsIt's a great opportunity to gain experience in the industry and make extensive contacts. All future employers will have heard of Motorola. The benefits are fairly competitive when compared to the industry. The products are cool and if you would like to change industries, you can go from set top boxes, to cell phones, to two way radios. The corporate culture is ethical and focuses on proper treatment for everyone. There are many locations to work at and I've worked at four, three in IL and one in Texas. Overall, the company has good leadership and good opportunities for advancement.

ConsConstant worrying about job stability. Many layoffs tend to stifle employee morale and makes people unproductive while they talk around the water cooler. Also, the software for the products seems to be slow and has lots of problems. The products are made well in a hardware sense but not in the software sense. The food cafe is cool but the prices seems to be a little on the high side. I would expect that the company could afford to reduce prices but I guess they hire food works to do it so oh well. I need just three more words.

Advice to Senior ManagementMorale suffers greatly with so many changes. Find a plan and stick with it. Enough of the 5 "C"s or twelve "M"s or whatever cute acronym is next to describe the semi annual policy change

ProsBeing a big company, there are lots of opportunities. They have an internal career site that you can use to apply to other departments. They also really care about the local and world communities not only by giving lots of donations for disaster relief, but also have a volunteer day once a year.

ConsYou have big company bureaucracy and they have been constantly restructuring. They are not really sure where they need to go and they keep changing their strategy. They need a real vision and need to communicate this to investors and their customers. They are trying to spin-off the wireless company but even that is delayed. They don't get innovation and need to find a way to have R&D and have that translate into real products.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a strategy after doing proper research, stick to it and execute. Focus on design and innovation apple/google-style. Give people 10-20%/week to work on their own projects albeit with a Motorola-focus.

ProsAdvancement, benefits, recognition, leading edge

ConsLayoff is probably going to affect me

Advice to Senior ManagementGet product to market faster, no good reason to lose so much market share, lack of exciting products has analysts dissing Moto. Also, you get paid too much, so it doesn't seem to me that you have a lot of incentive to improve performance. Yes, your bonus is tied to performance, but why not take a $1.00 salary and base your entire compensation on company performance>? That's th emodel that will get you and the SLT working hard to maximze performance and profit.

ProsMotorola was a fantastic company to work for with great people, benefits, work environment, tools and opportunities. management was top notch and knew how to treat people with respect and dignaty. If it was not for the hard times I am sure I would still be working for this American icon. I hope them all the best now and in the future.

ConsThe cleaning crew did not do a good job in the bathrooms and sometimes the wastebaskets were full. Libertyville was not the most convenient location but was tolerable. Parking was at a premium if you came in after 8 in the morning.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo not overlook the lowest worker. Get their thoughts on how to improve the company.
