Prosoperates in most exciting industry on the planet - cool technology and lots of great engineers. Pays well and good package overall

Consmarketing is weak and getting weaker post Google focus is still on engineering, long track record of CEO changes and lack of direction and understanding of its role in the world

    Annual Layoffs

    Finance (Former Employee) Libertyville, IL

ProsWhen you hit rock bottom you can only go up. Not a profitable company, but has a LOT of cash.

ConsAwarded for who you know, and not for how hard you work. Low employee recognition. Low visibility to upper management.

    Highly volatile company

Senior Research Engineer (Former Employee) Libertyville, IL

ProsFocus on research and innovation, particularly forward-looking company in a challenging industry.
Interesting advanced technology, with many intelligent co-workers who care about their work.

ConsCompany underwent many changes (Company split, then Google took over). As a result, management quality deteriorated.
Job security was never great, but has dropped dramatically since the Google buyout.
Used to have good work-life balance, with telecommuting and flexible work schedules. However, new management has changed all that.

    Going down the tubes fast

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Libertyville, IL

Pros- decent salary to start off, but raises aren't very forthcoming or very high...unless you happen to be a senior executive
    - work load isn't too bad
    - benefits are decent

Cons- new management is making rash decisions without caring about consequences, leaving everyone else to clean up their mess
    - money is being thrown around on trivial things (moving offices, remodelling) while travel and training are still hard to get approved
    - very difficult to move up the chain
    - raise/bonus are trivial unless you are senior level

Advice to Senior ManagementStop lieing to our faces and tell us the truth. Start treating us like human beings. Stop running this company in to the ground.

    Continuous Uncertanty

Information Systems Engineer/Architect (Current Employee) Libertyville, IL

ProsLarge corporation with many challenges and opportunities to network and grow. Also very good benefits including but not limited to, on premises health club, health care, 401K with matching, employee stock plan, bonuses.

ConsManagement has no direction and feel very reactive. Many felt that this was similar in many areas of the company. That added with the continued uncertainty of the constant mass lay-offs over the past 10+ years made for a stressful environment that almost encouraged a non-cooperative environment in which most everyone's morale was extremely poor. Now mind that I am also one of the few who has not been laid off. I can only imagine the view from that side of the fence.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a culture that the employees want to be part of and be a company that the employees can trust again.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
