I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great technology company with a long history of innovation in cellular technology. Teams are very passionate about their products and are some of the hardest working engineers I know. The talent is very deep and experienced. The recent purchase by Google will fundamentally change the company from an 1990s company to the more modern age, albeit as a much smaller entitiy

    Cons

Management has been slow to keep up with technology trends, until recently when the entire company was split up and purchased by Google. Recent management has been moving very rapidly to reform the company which has caused a culture clash, expected, and a loss of a lot of experience due to down sizing. The challenge will be to keep the company alive while fundamentally changing what it is doing. The reality, is that there is a long way to go before Motorola Mobility will challenge the leaders in the marketplace.

I have been working at Motorola Mobility full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great co-workers who became friends; ample opportunity to move to new positions internally (in the past); culture driven by desire to design and deliver great products; better than average pay; Google's new influence.

    Cons

    Bad moral from constant waves of downsizing; very low market share (perhaps beyond the point of recovery);

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Exciting to develop leading edge Android smartphones. Intelligent, hard working coworkers. Good benefits.

    Cons

The cellular industry as a while is a roller coaster ride. Good years were like winning the lottery in terms of bonuses and morale. Bad years were times of big layoffs and working lots of overtime to survive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If Motorola Mobility was still independent, there would be something to say. But all the senior leadership was let go by Google, so who knows what's next?

I have been working at Motorola Mobility full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Top rated employer - year after year.

Great benefits: Salary, vacation, health care, long / short term disability, education, you name it. Offers all the perks and industry standard or better. Seriously. None better.

Promotability: You can WORK your way up the ladder.

Color blind: Minorities, women, etc are all n LEADERSHIP roles, not just not free from discrimination. Also, as important, minority status will not put you in a LEADERSHIP role. You earn it like everyone else does.

Owned by Google: You'll be working with THE 800# gorilla in the room. Ability to partner with another highly rated company on cutting edge technology is at your fingertips.

    Cons

This is NOT your (great) (grand) father's Motorola. The days where an employee was GALVANIZED (not able to be fired except with CEO review) are long part of our past. Performance is the name of the game today. Be at work, be ready to work, and be able to work on the next generation stuff. If you're not into the latest software, hardware, technology, etc - you'll not be working here long. You're here to work and work hard.

Company is in flux. Mass layoffs are commonplace. That said, the company continues to do the "right" thing by the employees even during unfortunate times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Google is the new young dog on the field. They're successful. They're smart. They're agile. They've got energy. They've got some very deep pockets. That said, they've never (really) made a physical device and put it to market. The old dog (Motorola) can be taught new tricks, but don't discount the experience of those who may be a bit long in the tooth. No one knows it all.
