    I worked at Motorola Mobility

    Pros

    * very sharp people to work with
    * flexible work environment
    * very interesting work up until 2007 or so

    Cons

    * extremely top heavy organization
    * senior management is cluless about how to run a business; too many examples here- look no further than its lost leadership in an industry that it created-
    * accomplishments not recognized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * talk from time to time to real engineers and find out what's going on instead of relying on yes men that you usually surround yourself with
    * embrace change, not fight it; learn to recognize game-changing events/technology

    I worked at Motorola Mobility

    Pros

    Great people, great products, and people in the line business are committed to success. Good sales teams and large share of the equipment business in key markets.

    Cons

    Poor senior leadership, short term focused, lack the ability to articulate a vision and then deliver on that vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Become a wireless solutions company, and build a end to end solutions business. That means applications, consulting, and end to end integration services.

    Good Old Boys running the show, not very quick on their feet

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I have been working at Motorola Mobility

    Pros

    Motorola has a long history of innovation and is a respected name in telecommunications. There are opportunities to make significant contributions to new products and technologies.

    Cons

    The stress level can be very high in bad times, especially when downsizing. There have been numerous layoffs in the past few years to offset poor financial performance.

    I have been working at Motorola Mobility

    Pros

    Isolated opportunities to work on exciting products, with brilliant people.
    Depending on project and/or product specifics lots of resources available to invest in success.
    Although the company may have lost some of its luster there is a still a tradition and history of innovation and success.

    Cons

    The business is driven too much by cost cutting and is too focused on short term results.
    Different departments and business units often treat each other as warring tribes.
    Years of downsizing have resulted in a lack of engagement on the part of many employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop managing the company by trying to control costs.
    Aggressively invest in the growth of your employees.
    Put an end to inter-department politics and the warring tribes mentality by incentivizing value delivery.
