    Pros

It was a valuable work and learning experience to have been employed by Motorola (and later Motorola Solutions) for so many years. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have worked there.

    Cons

The negatives are what most people describe when they work for a large employer: too big; too bureaucratic; to get certain things done can often times take a long time; too often there are layoffs; etc

    Advice to Management

Be transparent and invest in new (cutting edge) technologies.

    Pros

The Stability is pretty good compared to other companies. However, been seeing some cuts lately.
The benefits are pretty good. in decline year after year but still better than average.

    Cons

The decision making is quite slow.
There is an old mentality, specially in the engineering domain.
people been working in same group for too long.
Changes are hard to implement. But it is a good challenge at times. Just painful.

    Pros

Competitive pay, flexible working hours, interesting technical products.

    Cons

Corporate Culture has degraded due to management behavior and continuous down sizing for the past ten years. They are attempting to sell what remains of the company, which has further degraded the culture.

    Advice to Management

    Sell the company ASAP.

    Pros

Flexible working hours and models. Access to multiple functional teams and people with diverse backgrounds. Great chances for trainings and seminars.

    Cons

Communication and cowork with people located in different time zones are quite challenging. It is so easy to have manuscripts meetings all day long.

    Advice to Management

The role and responsibility for everyone should be better defined. Getting involved in too many things distract people from what really needs to be done.

    Pros

Telecommuting, flexible work hours; Ok salary, health and retirement benefits. Pays for cell phones and wirelessly service.

    Cons

Not enough products to grow company. Too much nepotism, good old boy environment that fosters promotions and rewards based on who knows who rather than merit, performance, experience and qualifications. As a result, creativity has died because talented people are all gone.

    Advice to Management

Sell Businesses that aren't working and acquire new businesses that are growing in new tech space. Diversify revenue sources by investing in new products and services as well. Public safety products alone will not save Motorola as it is a flat industry with barely any growth.

    Pros

Great PTO. Some jobs allow working from home when you need to.

    Cons

Long time public safety employees are still resentful of their co-workers who moved to the Cellular Infrastructure Group and Motorola Mobility and had faster promotions, more bonuses, etc. The warring tribe mentality was by design and made sense in years past but not today. Too much competition within a company can be a bad thing.

It's really a shame that MSI Public Safety LTE networks aren't using products produced in Arlington Heights in Libertyville (Chicago). (former Motorola divisions)

Many of the MSI problems are the result of the failing Illinois economy.

    Advice to Management

Get some management training. Empower your employees, don't compete with them. Motivate them to be their best.

    Pros

Good benefits and flexible when I had to work at home.

    Cons

They are letting go of high performing employees as they have higher salary as well. Then they hire replacements under the guise of a different position at a much lower salary. Illegal? No. Immoral? Yes.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying yourself more and then having to let high performing people go as they make too much!
