I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be able to take total charge of a project quickly. Leadership is always willing to assist.

    Cons

Not enough emphasis on formal training. Most of the learning was OJT. Too many convoluted procedures for equipment lists and actually assembling the system in the factory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider upfront training prior to assigning Program Managers. Streamline the entire design, assembly, and testing processes.

    Pros

    Great vacation benefits
    Some team building events

    Cons

    Very hard to move up
Low salaries compared to national average
Located in the suburbs of Chicago. One of the most boring places out there

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Promotional opportunities every 1 1/2 to 2 years on average, worked with some of the best people out there, benefits good - more vacation time than average, flexibility to work from home when needed.

    Cons

Motorola has changed so much over the past 15 years that it's not the same company I started with - went thru so many rounds of layoffs which can make for a stressful working environment at times. There are fewer rotational opportunities so people get stuck in the same jobs.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Well rounded projects and people, intelligent yet somewhat laid-back working environment, no dress code, flexible working hours (within reason). Potentially long term employment.

    Cons

Managers often micro-manage too much, out dated techniques, upper management continues to decrease budgets yet expects more, meetings with upper management are often a waste of time due to skirting around issues rather than addressing them and not being very transparent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate busy work and paper pushing / part tracking for engineers. Innovate more and worry less about what the competition is doing.

I worked at Motorola Solutions as a contractor

    Pros

The people working here are great! Everyone here is willing to help and the seasoned employees are happy to share the knowledge.

    Cons

Some projects lack effective leadership. This fosters a reactive vs proactive tactical approach to challenges.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate all project planning so that strategic business results can improve.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Nice people to work with; great PTO policy and other work-life balances

    Cons

80-90s style of management; and need to have fresh blood and faster speed of moving at things,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the ratio of VPs to employees; we are extremely TOP HEAVY and no room for lower ranks to rise up.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Interesting and stable work and good people to work with. Excellent work/life balance in engineering.

    Cons

The company has shrunk from 150k+ to under 15k in the last 20 years. The uncertainty can cast gloom over the work environment. Less advancement opportunities in a shrinking environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to and promote your engineers more. There is too much disconnect between upper management and engineering.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Good Cultural value.
    Good Benefits
    Industry average salary

    Cons

It was difficult to see Motorola to go down like this. Lack of energy at senior leadership level. They didn't invest money to new technology and services. SLT always worry about their personal gain by selling pieces. overall, good cultural value. After getting company smaller and smaller, moral was low and difficult to maintain personal growth. It was difficult to see this big loss.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Higher level management-easier to approach, helpful and will solve various doubts of an intern.
HR-very friendly and keep organizing 'Lunch and Learn' events for the interns.

    Cons

Sometimes interns are given minimal work and there is too much of free time. Project based training is not provided and interns are expected to learn on the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1/2 weeks training should be provided to incoming interns.
