I have been working at Movado Group (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good work life balance
Many people have been here for many many years.
Company like a large family run company
    Good discounts on watches

    Cons

Low pay compared to what you should get paid in bergen county
No or very little growth potential
Some departments great and some departments have highly frustrated people. It depends on the vp of your department. Sometimes promotion is given to people who have no experience to manage a big department. Promotion is mainly on who you know and less about what you know
Wheen a young insecure inexperienced person heads up a department , frustration and low morale is bound to happen. Also some sr people are allowed to be unprofessional and it gets tolerated Too much politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people are your biggest asset. don't tolerate professionalism. Don't have an inexperienced person manage an entire department. You will only loose good people.

I have been working at Movado Group full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The commute for me is good, just off the GSP

    Cons

Work environment, most are in open type areas, very noisy, difficult to concentrate. The people who have been with the company a long time seem satisfied. New employees are given unreasonable goals and not truely appreciated by the long timers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Concentrate on the ovrall business. Do not dictate to others as to what to do, escpecially whan the taks at hand are vague. Do not be overly critical of new employees, allow a few months for them to find their way.

    Not a creative environment

    I worked at Movado Group

    Pros

    dress code, work day hours

    Cons

The design department is lacking a true creative direction. An accountant is in charge of the design department. There is more of a Devil Wear's Prada approach than a Apple approach. What you know isn't as important as who you impress most with your sense of style and charm. .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring over qualified designers. Designer turn around is high for a reason, it's not the designers it's the management. LIsten to your design staff, let people learn, let people speak up, let designers be designers and improve your business! There are 2 managers too many for such a limited about of brands. Embrace and empower your design team.

I have been working at Movado Group

    Pros

Work/life balance is decent. Not many people work late hours - most leave at 5 or 5:30, even top management.
    Decent employee discount.
    Very casual dress code.
    Summer Fridays.

    Cons

    Benefits are very expensive.
Salaries are below average for Bergen County.
"Good old boy" network. It's not what you know, it's who you know.
    Too many closed door meetings.
    HR management is terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop all the closed door meetings - after all the layoffs it just makes employees more paranoid.
    Make benefits package more competitive.
Improve communication between CEO and President to rank and file. Eliminate the class system.

It's great if you're in "the clique"

I have been working at Movado Group

    Pros

Summer Fridays, employee discounts, casual dress code, staff (not senior management).
Most people don't work very late.

    Cons

Favoritism abounds. Senior Management is aloof and distant unless you are in the charmed circle.
Benefits are expensive. Salaries are low for the area. Clique-ish.

They make you submit pay stubs from your last job before they make a final offer, which I have never heard of before or since.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bridge the chasm between senior management and the rest of the staff. Stop all the closed door meetings (agree with the previous reviewer - creates an atmosphere of paranoia).

Hard work, company constantly wanting more, no holidays or weekends off with family

    I worked at Movado Group

    Pros

Great bonus- if you can make them
    Great discount
    Good employee benefit package
    Good communication from HR department
    Good profit sharing matching amount

    Cons

Cannot take weekends off without missing bonus opportunity
No help with employees fighting over clients
    No company advancement opportunities
Only good as your last sales day.....
No way to balance work and family...great job for a single person

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to give at least one holiday weekend off a year to your management team. Sales are not as important as retaining good people over the long run. Support your management team with HR issues regarding hourly employees. Let employees who are salaried work a regular work week and take a lunch break out of the store.
