I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent starting pay for area Talented and welcoming coworkers No micromanagement - need to be good at working on your own with minimal supervision Good amount of PTO

    Cons

Pay increases are minimal Very little room for growth Expected to work weekends & nights in addition to normal 40hr week without equivalent compensatory time off.

I worked at NASCAR as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a NASCAR employee I had total access to NASCAR races and special events. Also NASCAR is a family friendly company, and I was even able to take my family to the 4th of July race! Everybody I met was friendly and eager to help, rather than fetching coffee or just shadowing within my department, I was provided with real hands on experiences and real world projects. We had weekly lunch and learns with important people within the company and were continuously encouraged to ask questions and take advantage of every opportunity and networking event. NASCAR does a really great job at hiring their interns!

    Cons

The stipend wasn't even close to what I needed for housing let alone relocation costs and the pay was just a bit over the minimum wage. Needless to say, I broke even at the end of the summer.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay or stipend so that students can take advantage of the wonderful experiences NASCAR provides as part of their internship program without worrying about being able to afford the internship.

  3. Helpful (1)

Working for a leader in sports entertainment is exciting and challenging with constant action and little down time.

I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working inside NASCAR provides hands-on opportunities and access to create new ways for fans to connect with the sport. The company understands what it takes to pull off events for 10-11 months a year and trains employees by doing with comparable compensation to other related industries.

    Cons

Long hours and constant action allow for little down time. The tonnage of events and content around those events doesn't allow a lot of time for planning and often requires execution on the fly.

    Advice to Management

Possibly rotating employees through other departments and definitely staffing up to allow employees to feel they have the support they need to take time off should be considered. While being lean is understandable, it stretches employees too thin and doesn't allow for as much out-of-the-box thinking as it could.

I have been working at NASCAR full-time (Less than a year)

People, experience and travel- If you enjoy motorsports it is a wonderful experience. You must enjoy travel and be prepared to sacrifice time at home.

    Cons

long hours and low pay with no overtime

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The organization has solid team members and does try to keep the 'big picture' in focus.

    Cons

The race season is long; if your position requires track travel, prepare to be a Road Warrior. Hiring from within doesn't appear to be a high priority.

    Advice to Management

I'm sure management realizes that different departments/offices don't always share the same vision and end up working against each other.

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some of the best reasons for working at NASCAR was the people, the product and the stakeholders: drivers, teams, track owners/operators, sponsors, broadcast partners.

    Cons

not a lot of opportunity for career advancement; once you are pigeon holed in a area very tough to move to another area of the company

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities for management training program where employees can transition to other areas of the company cross-training to foster career advancement

I worked at NASCAR as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Managers care about employees, great place to be an intern and learn about sport, all around great co-workers.

    Cons

Diversity department needs to improve, seem very power hungry towards diversity interns, yet don't do much for interns or sport overall.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate the director in charge and manger of diversity department. It is a great department with a great mission but needs much better leadership

    Pros

Meeting all the drivers and the respect you get from fans. It is also great to work in an environment where you are surrounded by things that you love, in my case, NASCAR. You also have the opportunity to travle all over the United States and see places that you may not have other wise seen.

    Cons

There are a lot of downsides to working within NASCAR. You travel all the time and never get to see your family. They expect y ou to put work first and family last. It is great pay but really, really long hours. There are also al ot of big, big egos to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Think about your employees as individuals rather than just numbers.
