I worked at NBC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

It is a great way to learn about television and media. NBC Bay Area is a great group of people with years of experience in the industry

    Cons

There were very few cons. I loved every minute of my internship. I would recommend this position to anyone who was interested in sales or marketing at a major corporation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There was a great office culture with a lot of fun and experienced people.

    I worked at NBC

    Pros

I was able to do a great deal at my internship. From getting published to learning more about social media, NBC was a great start in an internship!

    Cons

I was a little distracted by the open layout of the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing to add.

    I worked at NBC full-time

    Pros

    Professional equipment, no junk.
    Comfortable working conditions.
    Great security.
Payment on time, at the Network level.
Management tends to leave you alone, so long as you don't screw up.

    Cons

Competition within The Building was tough.
Fee payments not as fast at the Local Channel 4 level.
AFTRA allowed a No-Strike clause, so we could not honor NABET's picket lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If it's not too late, in terms of budgeting & reorganization attacks, try to keep running the place like a Television Network, not a hardhat area, or whatever type business any new owners think they're running. i.e., try to continue to try to get any non-knowledgeable Senior Management to "let the doctor be the doctor."

    Pros

Great learning opportunities and plenty of people willing to answer questions.

    Cons

Any unpaid internship is always tough on the bank account, although they did cover travel.

I worked at NBC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I was only an intern but I genuinely loved working at NBC. Overall it was a great company and I really learned a lot about myself and what I want to pursue as a career. I was in NBC Sports so I don't know if this is for everywhere but in my department they offered meet and greets with executives from all sorts of departments so you could hear how they got where they are. This was how I decided I want to go to law school and I wouldn't have known that without their help!

    Cons

I do wish I got to do more hands-on projects... but at the same time I wouldn't have learned the industry as well without the "mundane" tasks I was assigned. I only sat in on one phone call and it would have been better to have been able to sit in on more meetings or conferences.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow interns into more aspects of day to day tasks. Shadow days maybe?

I worked at NBC as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

I was able to feel comfortable around my co-workers so I could do my job in the best way possible. I haven't had such a great working environment in a long time.

    Cons

In the high stress environment, it was sometimes hard to really get a hold on some things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As it was my first time with the company I expected more of a formal training, so sometimes when I had questions it look a while for me to get an answer.

    Pros

Free food! Plenty of overtime at good rates, great colleagues and working environment. Nice uniform and all travel covered by the free pass. Would do it again.

    Cons

Long often unsociable hours with last minute shift changes. Sometimes instructions contradict previous training and what the clients actually want done.
