    "Incompetent" doesn't begin to describe this company

    ProsNot a single pro that I can think of. It really is that bad. Its simply a horrific mess.

    ConsUtterly incompetent senior and mid-level management. CEO & COO have ruined a nice business started and built by the CEO's father.

    COO comes from a wall street type background and after nearly five years still has no clue or understanding of the A/E/C/I business. Possibly the worst communicator I have ever encountered. Thinks business is solely based on metrics. Doesn't comprehend that targets and metrics established by management are virtually unachievable, and what's worse, doesn't care. As long as she meets her performance targets she is set. The thing is, the unachievable targets and metrics she sets for others actually HELP in meeting her targets because the company doesn't have to pay bonuses because of unachieved metrics. The deeper the company's black, the bigger her bonus. See a problem there?

    The CEO is an empty suit and doesn't seem to care because he's in the black (regardless of the shrinking business). They do not understand that healthy growth is the long term key to a successful business. You can shrink the company to get back to profitability, but that short term outlook will kill any company long term. And guess what, they have no plan for organic growth. The company plan is for acquisition of beleaguered firms to gain additional top line revenue while never doing anything to support the newly acquired work.

    It will crater, it's just a matter of when. Certain failure.

    Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice is pointless. Sr. management are to egotistical and ultimately, thick to follow good advice. History bears this out.

    Without A Clue

    ProsThe opportunity to work with a few great people who give too much of their time and talent to a poorly managed organization.

    ConsCEO, COO, CFO have not the slightest grasp of what it takes to run a professional services organization. They constantly churn through people who make the mistake of not falling iniline with the so-called Nelson culture. With this reputation, the organization has become "a last resort" employer as only candidates desperate for a job will go there.
    The CEO has zero experience outside the company (its the only company he's worked for), a company his father founded and where the he has now pushed his father and brother into minor roles.
    Working here is akin to being in a book-of-the-month club - whatever the CEO is reading, that will be the theme of his next quarterly Town Hall; "the new realities of the new economy" and "the 20 mile march". Advice to clients and potential clients... there are many far superior organizations with more stable financial status from which to buy planning and design services.

    Advice to Senior ManagementRetain a Board of Directors with real experience and industry connections. Once elected, the Board should immendiately terminate the CEO, CFO and COO and bring in a new leadership team with the capability to lead a profitable company where people actually want to work. But this will never happen, as the CEO now owns a majority of the company and wants nothing to do with a BOD who could actually hold him accountable.

    Improvement needed

    ProsSome good coworkers. The talent of some of the people there is incredible (yet not recognized) Good location, easy commute.

    ConsHQ leadership team only cares about the bottom line, not employees (or underlings as they refer to the employees). Local management isn't aware of what's going on right under their noses. Some employees get away with doing nothing, and it brings down the morale of everyone else. Salary was horrible. Worst health insurance ever. Other benefits are inadequate. The amount of pettiness in the office, starting at the top, is out of control.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStop being petty. Reward good hard work appropriately. Stop treating employees like your children.

    Bad place

    ProsDecent insurance and other benefits.
    Good co-workers; an image of hardworking, warm hearted factory workers working for mean, egoistic, factory owners.

    ConsUnprofessional organization, poor management, no respect for design, draining energy, no promotions (unless if you are friend with upper management)

    Advice to Senior ManagementHire a professional workplace consultant to improve corporate culture.
