The Biggest game company in South Korea

Senior Software Developer (Current Employee) Seongnam (South Korea)

ProsFlexible organization. Nice coworkers. I think pay is good in Korea.

ConsWhich is publisher than developer. So, shipping schedule is more important than game quality.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe need to develop a GAME not a cash generator.

    Big things ahead

Interaction Designer (Current Employee) El Segundo, CA

ProsI've worked in the creative department at Nexon for 10 months and have seen a change in Sr. Management (Director level over creative, Marketing and Customer Service groups) and some restructure. Some people left, some people were asked to leave and some new faces came on board. Overall the place has improved a ton since the end of 2014.

Pros: I genuinely like all of the people I work with and have laughed every single day since I started in July 2013.
Management seems to be getting closer to a unified vision and seems to be making strides in driving the business in the right direction. I believe Nexon is positioned to be big in the industry in the next few years.

I've had a lot of freedom and autonomy to drive the changes I believe are best. This works if you don't like to be micromanaged and can rise to the challenge of driving results yourself.

I know some departments have a problem with long hours but I've only put in a handful of late nights here while big projects are getting ready to ship. I think the work/life balance is fair and competitive.

1 paid off between christmas and new years is awesome.

ConsThe departments need to learn to work better together (See a comment a few down that says "interference by less important departments" wtf? You think LGP is the only important department?)

There are still a good amount of people who say "But that's not the way we've done it in the past." Gotta lose that, super frustrating.

A lot of bad opinions of Nexon on the web (and rightly so, lots of bad policies in the past at the expense of gamers.)

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in more UX experts and continue on your path to be a user-centered company.

Make sure all levels of the company have the resources they need to take the products into the future.

This place is an investment for your future career opportunities, not to grow financially

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe wealth of responsibilities and workload gives employees the opportunity to get their hands on a lot of learning opportunities. Problem solving, collaboration, and overall accumulation of knowledge and information will make your next career hop a breeze.

ConsUnderpaid, way too many managers/executives who hire their own friends, high turn-over rate, far too few workers, long hours, less company perks year over year

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) El Segundo, CA

ProsGreat people to work with. Executive team is trying to get the company on the right track.

ConsSalary is way below market rates.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease your salaries so they are fair market rate.

Great international environment, but quite "corporate".

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsInternational working environment, intelligent people, large exposure to top people in the industry, huge financing capital through IPO to sustain aggressive M&A

Conslow salary, few employee perks, rigid organization, working hours are not flexible

Advice to Senior ManagementSalary-level is not competitive compared to peers, vision can be expanded a bit more outside of core games industry

    Where dreams come to die

Not Applicable (Current Employee) El Segundo, CA

    ProsWe get Columbus Day off

ConsBeing lied to from the moment you agree to work for them
    No company loyalty
Pay is awful unless you are Korean or have connections
Having to sit through town hall meetings held by the CEO every month just to hear him spit lies
Will do everything in their power to low ball you
Create stupid titles that don't exist anywhere else
Long hours no work life balance
No team collaboration even though our foundation is supposedly based on it
    High turnover rate
Possibly being hired as a temp, promised to become permanent only later being fire because you are expandable
Clueless CEO, how clueless? You ask, he said there is nothing on the net that we can find that speaks ill of Nexon America. Google it!
    Working with incompetent employees
Too many chiefs not enough Indians

Advice to Senior ManagementI honestly can’t give any advice to management because they are not interested in anything I or anyone else working at Nexon America has to say. They give us the illusion of freedom, opportunity, creativity, but at the end of the day once all that is said and done it falls prey to the indecisiveness/aptitude of failed leadership.

Comfortable place to work but pay is too little

    QA Tester (Current Employee)

    ProsFun environment and cool people

    ConsToo little pay
Sometimes a ton of OT and sometimes absolutely no OT

Advice to Senior ManagementDepends on which management group. As for my immediate manager, not much to be said.

    A place to grow

Production Coordinator (Current Employee) El Segundo, CA

ProsPlenty of opportunity for growth. Good people, a good plan, but too many hurdles to reach your goals.

ConsInterference from less important departments. Lack of faith in good employees from upper management.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on Western development and ideas, not so much on the old standards. There's a whole world out there, and Nexon is starting to feel like it might never truly grow. Spend some cash, but on worthwhile ventures.
